Review by '' on item 'Araucana'

I recently got some Araucana's and at first they were a little weird with out tails. Mine don't have ear tuffs. But I love how pretty they are. They are very active and wonderful range chickens.

How do you show chickens at fair?

As I was saying (I ran out of room to write lol) :D Day of the show: My secret to poultry showing is "pro gloss". This helps your birds feathers shine as much as they can. Just make sure if you do use that to wash it out after the show or when you get home. I put pro gloss on 10 minutes...

How do you show chickens at fair?

...and effort. Poultry showing is great because you don't have to spend a lot of money like other 4-h projects (cattle, pigs, sheep, and goats). *As for the showing part Start small! In most cases your county fairs will have poultry shows that aren't as big as say a national show. First...

    that must have hurt

WOW! That's a big egg. As long as she didn't bleed while she laid or afterwards she should be fine!

    Broody Hen info

It's a good idea to block her off from the others for the first few weeks. Make sure she can get any food or water she made need. Good luck!

    Feather Loss ?

Could it be a vitamin deficiency? What do you feed your hens? Have they molted yet?

    Feather Loss ?

Do have a rooster? Make sure there isn't a cut. I had a hen that cut her self on some barbed wire and she lost her feathers.

New hens and new to chickens

This will take some time also. They need to get use to their new environment before they start laying. Also give them some yogurt. Yogurt has good bacteria in it and will help your hens digestive tract.

    Chicken pecked in eye!

This will take some time to heal. She may go blind, but you have to keep the outside of the eye clean or else she will get a infection. As long as there is no green or thick like puss coming out of her eye she should heal. Keep her away from the other chickens (like in a dog kennel or...

Review by '' on item 'Rhode Island Red'

I have 4 wonderful Rhode Island Reds. They lay wonderful brown LARGE eggs. Sometimes we even get jumbo eggs and double yolkers. Overall, these chickens are very fun to be around and they are very smart hens. Occasionally, they can be mean, aseptically when they are broody. A must for for a...
