I feed mash every day now. I just let it soak while I am cleaning the coop then feed it. They still have a feeder of regular pellets, but some days they just beak it out, like "what is this trash". Never mind that they ate it long before they ever started getting mash. This morning I had the...
Yes, so I went with the battery since my generator is only on the house, not the barn. I hope someday I can get solar for the barn, then I will convert it to electricity. I like that I have that option. Overall, I am extremely happy with the door.
I ended up getting an Ador1. It was between it, and one other. I had questions about both, and emailed both companies. Ador emailed me back with detailed information, that answered all of my questions and even gave me options for how to handle different things. The other company never replied...
@Eggcessive I have a couple of questions for you, or anyone else who can help.
Peony received her last dose of Panacure a week ago on Sep 11. This morning I noticed under where she roosted that there was clay poop again. I picked through it and found what I think were dead worms. 1/3 to 1/2...
Thank you for the info. In looking up the info on maggots, I don't think these were. These were a lot smaller, shorter and thinner. Plus, I have seen no flies. My calculations per tsp were correct for what you give by ml.
Looking at how much clay I picked up, I am leaning towards that was the...
Her crop has felt empty in the morning when I felt it while giving her the Panacure, but she also feels like she has lost weight. And right next to her sister, she looks like she has. I did not get pics since I didn't have my phone with me. The dose I calculated for her weight was just under 1/4...
Update:
This afternoon, someone passed about 4 or 5 decent sized (approx 1"x1.25") piles of clay. I picked around in it and found what looked to be worms. But since I don't know one worm from another, I am not sure what kind. They were maybe 1/2" long (or a bit under) and were thin and...
Right before I moved my girls to their new coop, I noticed one of my hens gaping. The night I moved her, I started her with Panacure treatments which I did for 4 days. There was a bit of a gap in the middle because I changed from treating at night, to in the morning when I could snatch her off...
I will definitely be doing that from now on. It never crossed my mind that ants like dried mealworms. In their small run, I would throw them a handful of mealworms and they were gone before the ants' radars fired up.
We broadcast spread for fire ants, and need to again but make sure we don't get close to the run, and spot treat for any of those we see. Unfortunately, we are past due for doing the broadcast treatment and it shows.
I could not believe they didn't eat the treats. They are still hanging close...
This is a problem I never would have anticipated. It seems ants like dried mealworms.
A couple of days ago, I scattered dried mealworms around the new run to encourage the girls to peck and explore, since it is a new big run, and just like with the new big coop, they are a bit shook by how big...
I am going to put my old small (4'x4') coop in the corner of the new run with a 8'x4' dog run attached to it, to use to get littles and bigs used to being around each other before I transition littles to a big coop. I plan on brooding the first two weeks in my garage, then moving to the "in...
RE: Old threads.
I often think "this has likely been discussed before" so do a search. That search may, or may not, give me all the info I need. If not, I will bump it. Some original people may not be here, but new people who might have more info are.
So what is preferable? An old thread that...
Problem solved! I went with Olive Eggers. lol
I can get the OE's from Ideal doing mail, but my local feed store does not normally get any. They just get EE's. But every spring, they get Ideal White Leghorns, so my next ones can be White Leghorns from the feed store.
Chicken math clearly...
