Thanks Becca. I don't do much on Craigslist so I tend to for get about it. But what I thought it was for buying and selling . . . what section would an announcement go in? Are announcements welcome there?
Welcome to the facebook group!

Hi everyone!
With permission from the admin I am posting to let you know that there's a regional facebook group available for people with chicken hobby farms in the Pacific Northwest. The facebook group is not a replacement to BYC so please don't leave this forum. "Backyard Chickens PNW" (as...

Hello from Brush Prairie Z-Hen.
Yea, it's a strange request. But I thought it would be so cool to have something alive there. Many of the attendees are from the city and nave no exposure to livestock.
I'm still crossing my fingers. I'd cover the gas expenses . . . anyone?
What a strange request, hey? But this coming Saturday there is a group of people doing the Hunger Games Castle Rock, WA. District 10 (which we're in) specializes in livestock. I have chickens but we don't live near the games, we will be camping and it's simply not practical to take a few of...
Thanks all! I was thinking along those lines (adding water). I have corn meal with weevils in it so I've been thinking about adding that. But it's corn so I probably shouldn't go too crazy with that.
@WestKnowAmy - thanks for the tips.
So how much red pepper flakes do you add for...
I have grower in crumbles and a good percentage of it is powder (what you call mash). I'm think the product has good ingredients, but I am pretty disappointed with the high percentage of powder. So what the heck do you do with the mash to get the chickens to eat it? My chickens won't eat it...
I'd just leave the pellets in the bag and beat them up with a 2 x4 or something.
I have the opposite problem - I'll make a separate post so as not to run over your thread.
You've got a nice looking flock. It's nice to have a variety of breeds. Isn't it fun to see their reaction to the big world? They just love the space.
It's quite a challenge building on a hill and it looks like you've got it all figure out. And I love your view of the Columbia River...
Wow Rochelle, we live in the same town. We live on 503 just north of Orchards.
We have the predators that you do except for the eagles, foxes and bobs. I ran wire above the chicken run after a hawk got one pullet. That was 3 years ago and we haven't lost anything since. Which is kind of odd...
Hi All!
I'm looking for some shade/shelter from rain for the girls when they are out in the pasture. We need a replacement for the truck and horse trailer that is now gone. They loved hanging out under there and we didn't lose any to hawks. Hope I haven't jinxed that by mentioning it.
Last...
We have had good luck with stringing wire over the run. Our run is large and so we opted for this rather than netting (and I can still put netting over the wire if need be). We have two large fir trees that we put lag bolts in and strung a single wire between them. We put a heavy duty spring...
I'm not sure - to be a farm don't you need to make a profit from it? Well we rent out the pasture and I do make a profit on that. Chicken-wise we only have 14 chickens. I sell eggs ($3/doz) and do well in the summer, but don't make enough to cover the chicken expenses all year around. So the...
Alright. I have access to filtered water so I'll switch over to that. Carrying water builds muscles right? Hah!
If that doesn't help I'll check into the worm situation and the kitten chow.
Thanks again!
Thank everyone - all are things to think about.
Protein: yea, the pasture has manure in it and hence lots of bugs. Not sure it's enough to cause protein overload though.
Egg shells: I have some from last fall (SO glad I didn't pitch them). I couldn't get the girls to eat them. However...
Yea, I noticed that "she" was getting quite a wattle. That's what led me to ask . . . well besides the crowing attempts. LOL Although, I've read that in the absence of a roo sometimes a hen will apply for the job and try crowing too . . . so I thought that may be happening.
Thanks!
Really! I don't see any spurs so I figured she/he to be a hen. A Roo would be cool!
So now what is the male version of the name Zena? Hmmm. Hubs thought up Conan.
Maybe I'll just call him Prince Zee.
Oh wait . . . Marans are supposed to lay dark brown eggs . . . and he's the only...
