Hello! This is my 3mo old chick. I think she looks like a silkie but would like the opinions of those who may know better... What do you think?
Here are the hens, one is the mom
Here is the dad
Thanks!
Robin
Hello,
We've got two chickens (bantam rooster, Austrolorp hen) that are gurgling. The rooster started out sneezing a few days ago and then turned into gurgling the other day. The hen just started gurgling today and I have them both separated from the flock. We have no aviary vet in my area...
I did find an animal laboratory in a city nearby and they did an autopsy for free. I chose not to have any diagnostics done due to cost and it apparently was not contagious as the other chicks show no signs of what he had.
Everything about the chick was healthy!! Except the spleen. He said...
Well, sad news. This morning I found the chick passed away... We would like to send it off to the place where they do an autopsy for free to find out what this was.
Apparently the medicine didn't work. It was Metacam & Amoxicillin.
Thank you debster1556 for your well wishes...
I found a vet in another state.
He said the skin on the chick's cone was dead so he cut it off. It will be deformed when it heals but it will be better. He said he'd never seen this problem before & wasn't sure what the issue was & could only say it was probably some sort of internal...
Thank you for responding. She is walking fine, shows no signs of it hurting. She eats/drinks normal too. Her cone is swollen and a bit scabbed too. I'm using fine wood shavings as bedding. No other chicks show these symptoms. I don't have a vet near but we are going to try some...
Updated photos. Not the clearest tho. Swollen foot has a few dark spots, scabs I guess. Other foot is now more red w/bumps. Some of the toes on the swollen foot are discolored; not pink like healthy skin. Also, the feet are not hot to the touch.
This is heartbreaking.
My husband is out of town this weekend and he is the shot giver so I have not given any Tylan-50 to the chick. I have given Benedryl (very small amount in water) and given Epsom salt soaks. The swollen foot is the same as well as the bumps. What was the good leg/foot looks bad now (raised...
I will continue with my cleaning steps. It is hard when you have chicks, juveniles, and adults all in different quarters....
I did realize that I had added something to the chicks diet just days ago that may have caused some sort of reaction for this particular chick. It's called "Baby...
Okay, thank you Eggcessive for your responses!
These chicks have not been physically exposed to my flock outside. However, I do have 3 silver duckwing bantam roosters that spend the day outside in a pen (near the flock's coop) and then come inside at night to plastic totes in the same room as...
Thank you for the responses!
These chicks are not from my flock; we bought them from someone else. The black spots on the leg are poo :( I know, dirty.... There are nine of them and I really try hard at keeping the brooder clean by cleaning the bedding often & sifting out the poo. He is the...
Hello Everyone,
I have a chick that is about 2 weeks old and noticed today that it's left foot is swollen. The left leg has some bumps at the elbow of that leg. The right foot appears ok but the right leg looks like it has some bumps on it. What in the world can this be?
I keep it and...
Joshua G & Farmer Viola,
Thank you for the replies! I only have a bantam rooster & my hens (except 1 bantam) are regular sized so he wouldn't fertilize the eggs. I get the eggs several times a day and don't leave them in the nest so I have no experience with a broody hen.
Robin
chrys64moore,
Are you in the USA? What type/brand fogger will you be using? I've thought of that but had no idea what fogger to get.
I took out all bedding in my nest boxes and replaced with newspaper flat on the nest box bottoms. (Some of my birds use the nest box edges to roost, I...
Hello,
I've read someone's opinion that an egg can be held out for up to 10 days before putting it into an incubator. However, doesn't a hen lay eggs until she gets up to 20 or so eggs before sitting on them? That means the first egg she laid is 20 days old before being incubated (by the...
I recently had a bad mite infestation mainly in the nest boxes so everyday for a week, I used a torch and burned every corner where I saw the mites. I put Seven on the bottoms of the nest boxes and I also dusted the chickens (poultry dust). No more mite infestation.
I'm curious about what...
