New chickens left their coop moved into a coop left empty from other chickens

The other hens, Golden Comets, were three. They stopped laying and when they did lay they were breaking eggs. A month ago we got six more hens and they haven"t started laying yet. Sometimes you just don't know whether you did the right thing or not. My neighbor says you have to make room for...

New chickens left their coop moved into a coop left empty from other chickens

No, coup 2 was their original coop. Today, I gave away six chickens from coop 1 and then all the chickens from coop 2 moved to coop 1. The chickens we gave away stopped laying. I feel sad.

Topic of the week - Chicken run management

I just added six pullets (four months old) to my existing flock. They are in the same run but separated by plywood and fence. Should I deworm these new pullets? No sign of parasites though.

Broody Hen Not Eating, Drinking or Pooping

I don't have a rooster and this broody behavior has been going on for two weeks. Now she only grumbles and today stopped eating. I am not sure about drinking. She tries to sleep in the nest box at night and I also find her in the nest box mid-afternoon.

    Chicken wire or hardware cloth

I found some hardware cloth on Amazon. 4 ft by 100 ft. 23 gauge. This will be put over other chicken wire we already have (otherwise, I would have bought a stronger gauge.) I feel pretty good about this.

    Chicken wire or hardware cloth

Thank you for your post. We can't afford hardware cloth either. Right now we have six hens and are using chicken wire combined with some garden fencing. For seven months all has been well. The new run will probably be the same (no hardware cloth unless I find a big roll in the street or...

    What is scaring my hens

Excellent comments...thank you all. I am putting my fake owl out again by the run. The run is covered (temporarily with bird netting) but my hens still get upset mid-to-late afternoon.
