This is my roost bars right now you can see there is enough space :) but yes it did work itself out. We had our first frost last night and they all seems happy and content. Balmy 42 degrees inside. And I have a couple laying right now lol
So my birds won’t be confined to just the coop for winter, they have a 8x26 enclosed run, with another enclosed run attached (green house) for the winter. They also have a fenced in area outside the run that they hang out in. My birds only use their coop to sleep and lay eggs, and they never...
Yes! I’ve been trimming their crests. They Aren’t show birds, so I don’t care what they look like. Since posting this thread, things have gotten a bit better. One polish is also coming into laying stage. (Waddles red) so it seems the other birds aren’t picking at her as much. But I 100% see a...
No it’s really not. 😂 they literally sleep on 2 roost bars of the 3. Per specs of our winter climate our coop size, Run are perfect. And your high and mighty attitude is pretty off putting and disgusting. We did 2 years research and planning building this coop.
And that’s what I was doing, because I felt bad for the lower girls. At this point I really only protect my 2 polish. Because they take a beating sometimes. I just let the others figure it out. It’s getting a little better now. My polish aren’t laying yet, one might start within the next few...
They didn’t have an issue with the old ramp, it’s the same angle as the old one. The only difference is it’s slicker, the old one was OSB board. Which I factored in being the cause of one of my girls bumble foot. And it is slick I watched some of the other girls slip a little. I’m just wondering...
Hello all! So we decided to redo our coop ramp. I felt like the issue with the old one was the reason we had a bumble foot. So we made a new one, painted it with exterior paint. But now it seems too slick and my Cochin Roo will not go up or down. I literally had to carry him down this morning...
Our coop was built to spec for our winters, with only 21 they have plenty of space. I live in the UP of MI, and our winters can be brutal. There are no lower roost bars, they are all the same length, width, and height. If I was to put those little ones back they would get shit on all night :) I...
So the 3 that get picked at the most usually come in first to get their spot. They like it on the back roost. But that also where I’ll sit. The 2 polish like to go to bed earlier than the others. Maybe 10 mins before. But as soon as they do go in 1 red star will go in and chase them around. And...
All of them are laying with exception of the 2 polish. I’m aware polish tend to get picked on in a mixed flock. It was worse, but outside the coop they don’t get harassed to much anymore. Just at night time.
My roost bars are 8 feet long 2x4’s and there are 3 or them, my coop is 8x8 can comfortably fit 30 chickens. We did a lot of research before building this coop, it is modeled after Carolina coops. The smaller ones on the floor are gone, those were to help them get up on the taller ones when they...
As a lot of you know (or maybe not) I’m a new chicken owner this year. My girls and roo are almost 7 months old. And I’ve been through hell, loosing one, bumblefoot, eye issues, yes I know it’s common. But I’m wondering if anyone can help me because maybe I’m over reacting, or maybe I’m not. I...
Just an update, the little tiny scab fell off today after her soak, I put some triple antibiotic on it, wrapped it. And will continue to soak her for a week just to make sure :)
Well I found her limping a bit yesterday, immediately checked her feet, and soaked her and wrapped, today soaked her for 20 mins again. I’m hoping the soaking the scab will fall off on its own. I don’t like to take drastic measures first, if I can try for less drastic.
Really nothing to squeeze out. I’ve been doing 20 min soaks, spraying with vetericyn. Waiting for my iodine ointment to come. Dumb turd won’t leave the bandage on though 😂
