I hatched some chicks for a lady and all she told me is they are Cochin mixes other than the polish one. Anyways, this guy has a funny looking comb and I have never seen one like this. Would it still be considered "single comb?"
Y'all are really bursting my bubble lol. I know the 2 Marans are cockerels. They have way different personalities and are now getting wattles and bigger combs. They also seem lighter in color. The "Ameracuanas" all seem sweet and I haven't noticed bigger combs or different personalities in any...
I have 6 cuckoo Marans that are suppose to be pullets. We all know how that goes. I believe 2 are Roos! Anyone have an opinion? They are 5 weeks old now, will be 6 weeks on Wednesday. If I keep a Marans rooster and Breed to my Ameracuanas will they still make an olive egger, since he is a cuckoo...
I set 6 eggs March 11th. Weights then were:
1. 46 grams
2. 51 grams
3. 42 grams
4. 40 grams
6. 37 grams
7. 40 grams
(5&8 were omitted due to flaws in the eggs!)
Day 7 the weights were:
1. 44 grams
2. 49 grams
3. 40 grams
4. 38 grams (this egg placed upside down on accident- flipped over to...
I started my second hatch a week ago today and I have not been candling, just turning until today. All are alive and moving except 1 which is clear. Anyways, I did candle prior to placing in the incubator but one egg I could not see the air cell so of course it is upside down. The embryo is...
I got up every 2 hours through the night to check #3 and at 6 I told my husband to wake me up when he leaves at 7. The turd hatched in that hour! Lol! So my first hatch I didn't see any of them actually exit the shell. Grr! His little umbilical was pretty red when he came out so I applied a tiny...
Awesome! I went ahead and got them out and dried and under a lamp! So perfect...I think! The second one seems to have gasped for air more than the first but I think it may be that he hatched right before I got home to check them and the other hatched early this morning. It seems like I don't see...
I had given up and went to bed after kind of helping this one but woke up to him chirping and standing up pecking at the lid! The other that has pipped still has blood veins to absorb and the other still has not pipped externally! Getting nervous for that one.
So looking into the first that pipped, I can see the inner membrane around him tight! They shrink wrapped! Should I help? I know I'm going to anyways but not sure what to do. Can they get out without help?
