Morning Everyone!
I was a member about 5-6 years back and loved this site! Well, we were relocated to the city for jobs and worked everyday to return to our farm. It took 5 years to get back but this summer we moved back to our mini-farm and the first thing we did was get some chickens...
Wow. I am so sorry. You absolutely did the right thing as hard as it was. If the horse is suffering then it is up to us to take action.
I don't know about coyote vs dogs but whatever it was I might just see if it comes back. I think animal control can set a trap.
We very loudly call "Here Chicken Chicken!!" From all over my farm chickens converge.
I don't know why we started that but it works. We sound silly, but it works.
We have 12 chicks! Last night I added more water via straw. THANKS!!
The humidity was still low at 50%. So we quickly snatched the 12 chicks out and added a sponge. We have more pipping and the humidity has gotten to 65%. I am so happy!!
Thank you all for the help and support.
I am having trouble keeping my humidity right for hatching. I have pipping but the membranes are white and hard. My humidity is running at 45 unless I put hot water in. I dont want to ruin my hatch by opening the 'bator to deliver hot water all the time.
I have a LG.
Help!!
I'd leave the alcohol. It will burn. We just clean the debris out of the wounds and dress with a poly/neosporin. Dog bites are generaly clean. The after care and internal injuries are what you need to be concerned with now.
I had a hen do that. She did it quite a bit and the original eggs underneath her never hatched. She was also impossible to get un-broody so I tricked her and gave her eggs about to hatch and she was finally sucessful.
I have an ameraucana/EE hen who is broody right now. There must be a bad egg underneath her. She is one stinky hen!! She smells like well, a slightly rotten bird. She wants nothing to do with me taking any of the eggs out let alone figuring which one is yucky. This hen is very close to...
Bunny and chicken joy! She has really settled in here. I love the name Temptation. Its so fitting. She is a glossy black lop with a few white hairs on her nose. She is so friendly and cuddly. I never knew bunnies could be this way!! She comes to us and wants to interact with us. Its just...
Im a very late comer to this thread. This is just so cool. I didn't get to see the video but read most of the posts. I didn't even know they could develop.
NEAT!
Those little nubs are the beginning of spurs IF the chick is male. But if the chicks is female then they stay just the same, as a little nub. We are talking about the tiny little dot on the inside of the leg above the last toe, right? Its about the size of a pin head in those shots.
As far...
All of my EE hens who were chipmunk striped dark resish brown chicks like yours turned out to be the same color of brown with a couple of degress of difference. They are really pretty, I think. But mine ended up to be about the same color they were as chicks.
I have used shavings, never wire. I like the shavings. But now I use straw. It is much easier to clean for me. We just pick up the whole mat and take it to the compost pile. Simple and easy.
I have been hearing about the TSC chicks. So I took a trip over there today.
I had to go and check it out. They had several different stock tanks full. Bantams, assorted straight run and pullets. So I picked out 6 of the pullets. What the heck, I figured they would make a nice addition to...
