Hey, there!
Fall is here, and I have some quality French Marans chicks for sale in the Ozarks! Beautiful dual-purpose birds, and gentle as can be. Parent stock rooster (pictured) has placed first and second at both county fairs he's been to. Hatching on October 18th for April eggs...
They are being sold for $12 for black coppers, and $15 for blues and splashes. I've been told that some color genes 'hide' in the blues and splashes, so I'm more interested in the black coppers. What does it sound like theyre selling?
For future reference; the chick with the brownish color is has a feather defect that is overly marked and comes from an excess of the red coloring gene in Marans. The following is cited from the website http://frenchmaransclubaustralia.yolasite.com/notes-on-breeding.php

That is a very good point.
They're coming from a breeder. I guess they could be culls (aesthetic or otherwise) for him/her, but it sounded more like excess roosters. They were posted as 'friendly,' and 'show quality.' If I decide to get them, I will be driving up there and hand -picking, so...?
I'm firing up my 'egg-cooker' this week! First time incubating, trying my BCMs and BCM x Easter Eggers' eggs! I've got eight eggs so far this week. Is anyone else just starting? I see a lot of fluff chicks.
I found these roosters for sale and I'm just drooling over them for my new hatch of pullets. Problem is, I'm a newbie at this. and would like a second opinion before making any final decisions. Are these really good for breeding? They have really nice combs, tails, and look nice and beefy, but...
My hen's been sitting on five eggs for 21 days now, and I think I have an external pip. It's broken through the dark outer shell, but not the white inner layer.... Ugh! Waiting!
Yeah, these have grown quite a bit, and I'm waiting for the first egg, now. Both turned out to be hens, and allow stroking once in a while. Even though My Easter Eggers of the same age jump in my lap and on my head!
Okay, mamma hen has the house all to herself with a fan, last night I pulled any unmarked eggs out. I candled the eggs last night. All the marked ones were dark inside, one had an even darker spot im the middle that moved around when I turned the egg.... The shells were too dark to spot any...
I marked her eggs the second day, there was only about five or so. I figure if I take out the unmarked eggs she'll keep laying, correct? Do I need to put some golf balls under there? I only have one dummy egg...
Oh, okay. :) I kind of figured the 'no other hens' thing, because one got in there and stepped on an egg (her own, I suspect. Momma had a good hold on her five) and I've been watching the house for anyone to enter. She's been taking a noon break, too, so once I get a wall, I'll let her out then...
:D Hoorah! :D One of my blue copper marans is broody! She's still pretty young, (in fact, I had to remove the dummy egg from her clutch while she was up) and only been sitting for two days, but I'm really hoping that she'll go through with it. Is there anything I can do to help her along? It's...
