I am having the same frustrating problem. I hatched 13 BLRWs from several breeders last year & never got one with a single comb. I culled down to 3 roosters & 6 hens but now that I am breeding them together I am getting about 25% single combs. I am now trying to narrow down the culprits to be...
I'm so excited to have Jubilee Orpington chicks from Heirloom Orpingtons. I never thought I would be able to get some of these beauties. I can't wait to see how they turn out.
Its a little hard to tell from the pic but the little spike on the hens comb is coming from a little indention that just looks kinda like a shadow in the pic.
I'm afraid I already know the answer but do the last 2 blrws have inverted combs? What about the first 1? It isn't inverted I don't think but is it acceptable? I really don't want to cull more birds from my small flock but don't want to breed birds with such obvious faults even though they are...
I am new to oegbs. My 6 week old rooster has started flying onto my arm. Is this a sign of future friendliness or a sign he won't be afraid to flog me in the future? Lol. Should I encourage or discourage this behavior to have a respectful relationship in the future?
Can anyone tell me what colors I should expect to get if I breed mille fleur with self blue? I know they will be split to lavender but will they all be mille fleur or 1/2 mille fleur & 1/2 black or all black? My ultimate goal is to make porcelains. Am I going about this right?
Second batch of oegbs did not go nearly as well. Even though they took the longest to get here they had a very high development rate & only lost a couple the first 2 wks. Then we went camping for 3 days & I don't have a turner. When we got back the first 4 I candled had died. I put 8 in lock...
My second of 5 small staggered hatches started today at 1:30am! I woke up & checked on the eggs even though the 1 only had a crack in it when I went to bed. It was just fixing to hatch so I got to see it. Another is fixing to hatch now & 2 more pips. This hatch is from my own light sussex so I...
It has a little white on the tip of each wing & under its chin. I figured it would lose that like black australorps but I have never raised either one. The light yellow one has a faint streak on the back of its head & a very faint chipmunk stripe down its back. I mean so faint I'm not sure that...
These are suppose to be mille fleur & black but looks like the seller got some of his self blue & white eggs in with them. What do you think? It makes for a nice variety but I was hoping for breeding pairs or trios. They are sooo tiny & cute.
Most likely mille fleur d'uccles I don't know of any other mille fleur bantams that have feathered feet.
These are suppose to be mille fleur & black oegbs but looks like the seller got a self blue & a white in there too. They are sooo tiny & cute.
This is day 19 for the eggs in the hatcher. 2 out of 3 of the mille fleur d'uccles have hatched with the 3rd having a large pip. 3 out of 3 of the mille fleur oegb have pipped. Nothing from the 4 black oegbs yet.
