Yesterday we noticed a 6yr hen of ours was walking funny, and today she is completely immobile and seems to have a large lump near her abdomen. We’re thinking it could be poop or an egg, but nothing for sure. Comb is also bluish in color (shape is normal, it’s been like that for years). Any...
I would look into pullets selling in the area; you wouldn’t want to buy a new chick since the others are already a few months old. Also, if they’re bantams you could look into those, or if you’re worried about size difference some other small breeds like white leghorns might work
So in March we bought two chicks from a local hatchery, claiming to be both pullets. Now, since they’re older, I’ve started noticing some pointed feathers and a more erect tail on one. I’ve just assumed it’s a roo, also considering he is much taller than our pullet. Any thoughts or comments...
She runs around the pen like there's a fire 24/7, she makes the funniest noises that sound nothing like clucks, but she is a great hen to have. she makes us laugh a lot. to make matters even weirder.... her name is Jimmothina:lol:
Haha! I just read through the first half of this conversation and it had me laughing (not about your concern for your hens :hmm). I've never known anything about Orbeez so I can't be much of a help, but the title of your post had me laughing, @gabscilla ! I totally agree
When we hatched eggs last summer my chickies werent really eating/drinking either. I tried carefully dipping the tip of one's beak in water and then lifting the head so he could swallow. I did it a few more times and after he got the hang of it he was at the waterer for SO long drinking more and...
There is an abrasion on the bottom of her foot, but as i was putting ointment on it and wrapping it, I noticed her hock seemed to be bothering her. I wrapped it in medical tape to "stabilize" it and she (kinda) seemed happier. Her toenails look normal, and there was no large scab on her foot...
So my friend is staying in Cali for Christmas and asked my to check on her chickens a few times while she was away. I went today and one of them was sort of limping/walking low. I’m not really sure if it’s bumblefoot or something else, but I have the things to treat it if it is. What should I do?
