Hello all!

I'm Sam and I'm in central Alabama. We moved about a year ago from North Georgia and have bought a house. Now we are just about ready to add a few chickidees to our little family that consists of three house cats and a horse (who is boarded elsewhere). I have never owned chickens before so I am a complete newbie!

We are going to be building a little chicken coop on an old trailer that is 8 foot long so we can move the girls about the yard (we have about 3 acres) and want to keep a flock of about 4 hens. I am hoping to let the girls be free range during the day, and have them tucked away at night.

I've been doing quite a bit of research and I'm wanting to start my flock with Easter Eggers and Dominiques. Any recommendations for breeders/hatcheries (I like to support small/local business) would be greatly appreciated!

Hello there Sam and welcome to BYC!

You have definitely come to the right place for all the fun and learning! Have you seen our Learning Center yet? All kinds of good reading on all the aspects of keeping poultry... https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

Make yourself at home here and ask any questions you may have. Welcome aboard!
