Hi all I have four bantams and one of them has been broody for an extraordinary amount of time, about 4months or so. Today when I picked her up I noticed a squirt of clear liquid come out of her beak. She seems well in herself apart from the broodiness and this has only happened once but I was...
No, they’re not on eggs, just broodies. What I have done is shut the pekins out of the run into the enclosed free range area today and left the silkies in the run so they have the coop all to themselves. Hopefully the silkies will discover that they need to lay in the coop! Many thanks :)
Thank you so much. The pekins are broody at the moment so maybe they are feeling scared to go in the coop to lay? They lay their eggs in the morning, usually quite early, so I will keep them in their run until about midday. Many thanks for your help :)
Hi all I have two silkies and two Pekin bantams, I introduced the silkies about a month ago. They free range in an enclosed area in the daytime and the silkies won’t lay in the nesting box they keep laying in the bushes. My worry is when they’re broody they will try and nest in there at night...
Something similar happens with me, I have two silkies and two pekins and one of the pekins will chase and peck the silkies and they won’t retaliate they will just crouch for her to peck them. If it is getting really bad, maybe try and seperate them in different runs for a bit. Just keep an eye...
Thank you so much for this, that’s a relief - I feel awful separating her from the others! Fingers crossed it goes away soon but she seems well in herself. I’ll keep an eye on her. :)
Hi all I have a flock of four bantams and one has a few strange yellow-ish bumps on her comb, I’m pretty sure it’s dry foul pox. Shall I quarantine her in a different coop from the others to stop it spreading? If so, for how long?
Thanks!
That could be it because I have just bought two new silkies a couple of weeks ago and they have been fighting with Blueberry and her sister quite a bit - strange that it looks pussy though?
Hi all, I was cuddling Blueberry today, one of my Pekin bantams and noticed she had a sort of yellow-ish pussy spot on her comb. I will attach a picture, any idea what this is?
Thanks for any replies!!
Hi all, I have two pekins and two silkies and bought the silkies two weeks ago and I’m in the process of trying to get them all to be friends! Currently, the pekins and silkies are in two seperate runs for the night and free range in an enclosed area in the daytime altogether. I have decided to...
well the other day I let them al out into a big enclosed area together but didn’t want to leave them unsupervised just in case. Do you it’s better if I just let them work it out?
Hiya guys this weekend I bought two gorgeous silkie hens, Minnie and muffin and I already have two little Pekin bantams names Tilly and blue. At the moment, the silkies are in a separate run as they are not getting along great with the pekins and I was wondering if there was anything I can do to...
Hi guys,
I bought one of the massive Dodson and horrel layers pellet bags a month ago roughly and threw away the packet and am storing it in a big container. Do any of you know if/when this feed goes off?
Thanks for any replies as I don’t want to throw it away if it’s perfectly good feed! :)
How sweet! All of those eggs as well! Thank goodness, sooty returned this morning outside her coop! I have no idea where she went but was missing the whole night!
I’m so happy to have her home.
Thank u everyone who responded, really appreciated! :)
