I know this is an old thread, but fellow chicken keepers are always searching for answers.
I have an anemic hen. She looks like Lilybug, beautiful! I ordered Red Cell from Chewy.com.
I found information and dosed the hens at 1 teaspoon per gallon in their waterer. My little anemic Bunny was the...
You may be reintegrating momma also. She is an outsider now, having been separated for 7 weeks. Keep a watch. She may be protecting herself over her babies.
I think they are both female and two different breeds, which may be what is making sexing so difficult to begin with. Can’t compare apples with oranges. Legs, waddles, head shape look different to me, and one is obviously lighter.
Update:
Cochin momma happy as can be and loving her momma life. What a beautiful things to watch!
❤️
cranky Silky still stubbornly sitting on a pile of wooden eggs. What a cuckoo.
This is an old thread but wow, did it get me hot!
For future readers, please make sure you have your brooder plans together and brooder already warmed BEFORE you bring the chicks home. And they are not children’s pets until they are full grown.
🙄
I have had two broody hens for weeks:
Cochin bantam
Buff silky
I ordered chicks: 10 total.
I waited for night. I quietly did the deed, replacing eggs with chicks.
for some reason, knowing my girls, I had full confidence in my Cochin. I knew she would be an excellent momma. The Silky I felt I...
Report:
She is perfectly fine this morning :)
She must have had some food stuck. Bread soaked in olive oil did the trick, so thank you to pasts posts! I was about ready to try honey then run out and treat her for gapworm this morning if she was still having problems.
She is eating, drinking...
She is a 1 year old Appenzeller Spitzhauben.
No issues with any of the flock. No sickness or disease. No respiratory issues. Happy healthy girls.
This was sudden onset.
Sounds like an accordion wheezing in and out.
I gave her bread soaked in olive oil and waiting to hear from someone with ideas.
I know this is a late response, but one of my bantams does the EXACT same thing -and she has layed eggs! I know she is a she.
She is also our little sweet snuggle bird and demands attention.
I need help!
We are MOVING to another state: California to Ohio
I contacted the Agricultural departments.
I contacted NPIP.
All I know: I need a health certificate 30 days prior and it needs emailed to the Ohio Department of Agriculture so we may leave and enter the state with our PET...
We have a visitor, and this morning he brought his/her buddy. Cute and all but the girls are just starting to lay and I have 5 week old chicks that will be out play-penning in the run soon. The squirrel nest is in the tree inside then pen and the canopy covers our run -which has given great...
I agree, meat processing is rather an inexpensive quick fix if you cannot place them. Just be careful on Craigslist so they don’t get used in cock fighting rings. The thought seems cruel.
I agree with removing the roosters. Maybe find a nice farm for the extra boys. There is much value in roosters and there are people who depend on them to protect large flocks and keep rodents and pests down. As far as your girls, I would provide them with shade, peace and quiet away from an...
...and it’s even worse when they survive and you nurse them back to health for 2 weeks, changing bandages and syringe feeding in the middle of the night to keep them alive and hydrated. I love my chickens. They are not just my flock but my friends. And I agree, when you can only have a small...
