I have a coop where I keep injured or neglected chickens and ducks. It is made of wood and hardware cloth, the wood area with the heat lamp and an area for fresh air with hardware cloth. Ducklings arriving next week-can I have a broody chicken sit with them?
Thank you! My frizzle seems to be out of her broody mood now so she probably wouldn't be a good mom. I always worry about heat lamps being too hot or causing a fire, even though I have never had anything bad happen with them. I am so excited! Getting their new home set up this weekend. -
Ducklings arriving next week-can I have a broody chicken sit with them?
I have 10 runners arriving soon. I was wondering if I could keep my bantam frizzle with them to keep them warm instead of a heat lamp. They will all be inside and it is not cold here yet. Will this be bad if the ducklings think frizzle is momma, or is it ok? -

That is what I am worried about. I got the three males first and then the 4 which are half females. The 4 follow the 3 around, but the groups also separate sometimes. So far it looks like the 4 are pairing up. The 3 don't seem to be interested in the 2 females. I guess it wouldn't mind two more... -

My boys do that, then they make a burping sound???? OT-my frizzle chicken killed a snake and was running around with it with the ducks chasing!! Will chicks or ducks actually eat a snake??? Is the bobbing head thing a digesting thing? Pushing food down? -

I wound up with 3 male white and fawn runner ducks. I do not want to give them up, but they very much want to mate. Saw one duck trying to mate with my dog's toy and then another one hopped on to that duck. It was kinda sad and funny at the same time. They try to mate with my dogs also, yuck... -

Ducks won't come to their house at night
Ahh, that is great news! Sometimes my runners go right into their house when I tell them to and sometimes they don't. I have discovered that a flashlight shined on the ground herds them right in. Although I think they are catching on to that, so I use that technique sparingly! -
