Something got my baby duck through 1/4 inch hardware cloth! What was it?

Oh, also, I have never had a problem with a chick attacked in this way. Is there something that will just go after ducklings?

Something got my baby duck through 1/4 inch hardware cloth! What was it?

I have a coop where I keep injured or neglected chickens and ducks. It is made of wood and hardware cloth, the wood area with the heat lamp and an area for fresh air with hardware cloth. I had a baby duck and chick in there for the last 2 nights. This morning I went out to check on them and the...

I think I will need to have a shed/coop for them, or at least enclose part of their current area better with a door. They probably need to feel more secure. Mine do nap during the day also.

I love all the pictures!!! Beautiful babies! I have some noisy girls, so noisy that I worry about my neighbors. I have 6 drakes that are about 8 months old and they are pretty quiet, its the younger girls that are noisy. I got 11 girls in September, so they are about 3 months old. They are...

My adult ducks bob their heads and make a burping sound. They all do it, so I thought all ducks did this. Maybe not? Also, mine will rest their head on their puffed out chest. Is this normal? All my adults are male, 6 of them

These babies are messy!!! I may have to split them up. Can't seem to keep the bedding dry. I have the water and food in a plastic kitty litter pan that has an opening cut for them. Then I have the other half of their pen with pine shavings. They have been trying to eat the shavings so I have put...

Today is a great day! The finale of Big Brother and the first episode of the season of Survivor is on tonight! PLUS, I picked up my 11 runner girls from the post office and they are all doing great!!!! I have had chicks this young, but not ducklings. My other ducks were already a couple weeks...

Ducklings arriving next week-can I have a broody chicken sit with them?

Thank you! My frizzle seems to be out of her broody mood now so she probably wouldn't be a good mom. I always worry about heat lamps being too hot or causing a fire, even though I have never had anything bad happen with them. I am so excited! Getting their new home set up this weekend.

Ducklings arriving next week-can I have a broody chicken sit with them?

I have 10 runners arriving soon. I was wondering if I could keep my bantam frizzle with them to keep them warm instead of a heat lamp. They will all be inside and it is not cold here yet. Will this be bad if the ducklings think frizzle is momma, or is it ok?

Will drakes settle down? Graphic mating talk warning!!!!!

That is what I am worried about. I got the three males first and then the 4 which are half females. The 4 follow the 3 around, but the groups also separate sometimes. So far it looks like the 4 are pairing up. The 3 don't seem to be interested in the 2 females. I guess it wouldn't mind two more...

    Normal behavior?

My boys do that, then they make a burping sound???? OT-my frizzle chicken killed a snake and was running around with it with the ducks chasing!! Will chicks or ducks actually eat a snake??? Is the bobbing head thing a digesting thing? Pushing food down?

Will drakes settle down? Graphic mating talk warning!!!!!

I wound up with 3 male white and fawn runner ducks. I do not want to give them up, but they very much want to mate. Saw one duck trying to mate with my dog's toy and then another one hopped on to that duck. It was kinda sad and funny at the same time. They try to mate with my dogs also, yuck...

Oh my! My boys are desperate for some female company! One of them has been getting on top of my big lab (who is a boy) and going to town. Well, my dog does not seem to mind, until the duck grabs on to his ear! It is kinda embarrassing! Anybody driving by can see all the action! Will this stop as...

Ducks won't come to their house at night

Ahh, that is great news! Sometimes my runners go right into their house when I tell them to and sometimes they don't. I have discovered that a flashlight shined on the ground herds them right in. Although I think they are catching on to that, so I use that technique sparingly!

    Mean Ducks?

My runners are chasing my dogs and cat! I worry about it. I have a very large yellow lab mix, border collie and Chihuahua and the ducks go after all of them. I had a black lab that they loved to cuddle with, but we had to put her to sleep as she became very sick. Maybe they knew and wanted to...

I don't know, I am a newbie with ducks! I hope someone knows. I guess we will eventually find out! I think I might have a girl in my bunch. I hope I have more! I have to separate my older boys from the little ones as they get a bit aggressive, especially in the pool. I let them hang out for a...
