We got into it for several reasons. First & foremost, I LOVE FRIED RABBIT!!! LOL!!
I do think they are easier to clean than a chicken, but not by far. I just don't like the smell of wet feathers.
In all reality, I believe chickens are easier to raise than rabbits. I just let them out to...
I just recently bought rabbits for meat also. So, by no means am I an expert. I was told by the person I bought mine from that each doe will conceive up to 8 kits per litter. Probably less on their first litter. Depending on mortality rate, you could be having a lot of rabbit meat after 8-12...
Thanks for the comments, ppl!! These birds are our first chicken raising experience & we are rather proud of them. We diefinitely won't have Cornish this long again. Them critters can eat their weight in food. LOL!!
As far as aging them, YEAH, I know. I have a feeling the stew pot & the hand...
These are a couple shots of our PROTECTOR!! His name is Lancelot. He is such a great roo. While he will attack the other roos, he will still protect them from danger. If there is even the slightest squack, he is running for it. He will even attack our pitbull....lol
The pics don't show it well...
OOOPS!! Wrong critter...lol.
These hopefully will be some shots of our Cornish Xs. Like I said, 23 weeks & still lively....These creatures are a crack up. They all have a personality of their own. It's almost a shame to take them out. We tried not to get attached to them but, they are just too...
I hope this works this time.
We still have seven Cornish Xs. They have to be some of the healthyist on earth of this breed, after all I've read about their mortality rate. Ours are 23 weeks old, today. LOL!!
As I said, they are quite healthy!! They run, fly, fight, & yes, even try to mate...
My Production Red roo is very protective of his girls. The wife named him Lancalot. The name fits but he always misses the mark. LOL!! When it comes to protecting his girls though, he never misses. He' beat up every one of the wife's cats, our pitbull & our german shepperd that weighs 90lbs...
Well. as much as I hate to say this, I have not perfected slitting their throats. YET. I still think it is a good method though.
It has to be better than trying to gas them. That just don't seem right. Not knocking you. Just don't like the gas idea at all.
I'd go for a stunner that would knock...
I'm with Purple Chicken!! Close this thread before the poor lady either strangles her kid or over-psycoanalizes her. Spelling!! I know!!
In all seriousness, there are a lot of great suggestions out there, but, Lexustami said it best.
Your childs doc is not finding the problem. GET ANOTHER...
We have a rooster. Not sure what breed he is, except he is half fighter. Whatever that means! He's small & skinny but full of himself. Faster than heck & a loner, for the most part.
He has a (what we call)lazy comb. It is always hanging over one eye. It never stands up straight like our...
Congrats!! We just ate our first last week. It took 2 of us through 2 dinners. So nice to finally get a chicken big enough to roast like a turkey. LOL!!
For $25 bucks, I'll try it. I don't know why though. I can pluck a bird pretty darn fast but maybe it will help the wife so I can do more of the yucky things. LOL!!
Well we just ate our first home grown freeranged chicken last night. It was deeelicious. I'll agree with what Silkie said above. They do NOT fall apart like a store bought chicken but he wasn't tough either. He just had a little more substance to him. LOL!! A lot more substance. With a 8.4lb...
Sorry about your loss. I know when it gets hot here, my cornish X's start panting & never stop. I always expect to watch one just drop dead in it's tracks but so far my wife has been on top of the watering & she changes it & it's place almost hourly. She also adds ice cubes to their water on...
My Cornish X's freerange with my laying hens. Of course I give them broiler rations also. Mine took slightly longer than most because I wasn't able to get the rations at first, but, I just butchered 2 birds that were 10 weeks & dressed weight was a respectable 8.4lbs & 7.5lbs. I'm happy letting...
I'm with everybody else...Don't raise them with your cornish.
I can't imagine anything worse than the mess I've seen with my cornish x, but I've never raised ducks, YET.
As for taste. I have not liked one store bought duck that I've bought, but, I used to hunt mallards & those were the best...
