This is awesome!
My only advice would be is to maintain two separate sections far from each other. One section is yours, for breeding, and the other section, nowhere near these, is for the adopted ones, and where you will have the public entering. Inevitably, you'll be taking in a chicken or...
Hi!
I honestly don't worry about crops until they are adults and having some issues.
Chickens, especially growing chicks, should have their feed available to them during all daylight hours.
It's not recommended to give chicks anything beside their chick crumbles for their first six weeks...
Oh so precious! :love
If you want to post a video directly here, you can either post it to YouTube and make it shareable, then get the link to paste here, or use our Gallery (tab above), which works similarly.
When hens go broody, they stop laying eggs.
If you can't move her so the other hens don't lay on her nest, I'd get all the eggs you want her sitting on and mark them on both ends with a pencil or sharpie (both are safe).
That way you can take the eggs out that the others are laying in her...
Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow
Neat intro!
@BantyChooks is one I know that has made oodles of incubators and you can find a few of hers in the Incubator/Brooder forum as well as others that you might find interesting. You two could probably collaborate. :)
We're glad you're here!
Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow
You've been given lots of great resources above, so you can check those out, but I wouldn't worry, as it's nothing serious.
We're glad you're here!
Hi,
Can you get permetherin (garden dust) there? I'd make sure he was lice free by powdering him over with that, and treat the coop with it too.
Part of the problem could be he's run down and a vitamin boost would help. We've got Poultry Cell and would put that in our chicken's water every...
You two must be doing a great job at bandaging if they stay on for two to four days.
I presume their "wound" isn't open, just the scab may fall off, which I would also presume would have tender skin below it, but not open.
Is there a chance you could just have your husband help put new...
This does look healthy to me. Preen glands can get infections so just make sure it doesn't feel hot or anything but that looks pretty normal. Maybe she's preening more than they are because she's finishing molting.
Hens will take care of their chicks. This batch we have in a breeding pen and are in with a couple of roosters and another hen. Roosters will help defend them too. I laughed at my roosters when taking this picture as they were looking at me as if they were asking, "Why me?"
Usually, they...
It sure looks like it but they aren't so bad yet.
We get them every two years or so with our silkies. Two things we've done work. Go in the coop at night for both.
Slather every chicken's feet and legs with vaseline. Repeat every other night for three nights. Then repeat this in 10 days...

Garden dust with permethrin is exactly the right product. That's the same can we have and use for fruit flies in parrot cages and works great! We've always monthly sprinkled diatomaceous earth to keep mites out of the coop, and have for 9 years, but if they ever got an outbreak, the stuff you...
