Hens will kill smaller birds?
Like baby chicks, or like my 4 month old silkies?
I think I need to move her because my husband said he caught a different hen trying to get into Sunnys nest.
Is the fact that I live in Wisconsin and it has been getting down in the 40's and night, high of 55...
I tried to candle with a piece of card board with a hole in it, and a flashlight. I didnt check all of them (9) the first 2 seam "clear" but not as clear as a 1 day old egg that was in the other nesting box. The next 4, the long way across the egg, has a dark form and the other 1/2 of the egg...
The nesting boxes are 2 feet off the ground, I cant just move one box because it's all one unit. I have a wire metal dog crate, But I didnt know if I should move her, I read on a different post that someone else moved there hen at night.
The nesting boxes are very small, both of her wings...
I have never been around a broody hen, all our baby chicks come from the mailman.
So when our buff Orpington went "broody" I didnt catch it right a way. See, I'm pregnant and get morning sickness everynight from about 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm so my family has been taking care of the chickens for...
My husband wont eat our eggs unless I wash them.
He said " do you know where that egg was last! " :o
I just rince them off quick for his own peace of mind.
Your daughter is lucky to have a Mother who will help her take this journey into motherhood.
Some of my best memories as a child, are when I spent the weekend with my Grandma Pansy.
This is a 1895 Victorian farmhouse that was sited for demo, so we moved it. Since then every person who has lived in it since the 30's has called to tell me it's haunted. I dont know if I belive it or not, it is odd that they all tell the same stories, yet had never meet. We dont live in the...
I fill a pot 1/2 full of milk, with a little water in it (then it wont cook to the bottem of pan) then I cut up some potatos into one inch chunks. Cook them in the milk. They will thicken the milk again as they cook. As that cooks at a slow simmer, I add the left over baked ham. I add pepper...
Last year was the first time I raised Meat birds. (with out my parents) I ordered str. run and got mostly female, then the 6 or so males grew faster than the females. I think, they should have been butchered a week or two before the females. They got so big they started have trouble standing...
If you dont like the guy, I would call animal control. Any inbreed loser with half a brain, would know not to let a dog out in the same yard as chickens, unless the dog has been trained not to hurt them.
If it was me, I would call animal control, he and your mom, may not listen to you but...

This is the web site I like, because it has pic's that take you step by step through each canning recipe. I just made the canned baked beans recipe, it was easy and they look good. I have not ate any yet, I'll wait a few weeks.
good luck
My chicks are about 4 and a half weeks old, I wouldn't put them outside yet because they dont have all there back feather in yet. If you feel like your chicks are bored, then have you ever gave them a couple hard boiled egg yokes?
My chicks go crazy for them and my kids and I get a good laugh.
I used ether, but if I ever have to do it again, I would try the dry ice.
Ether is VERY smelly even when used outside.
I hope I NEVER have to do it again.
I had a great horned owl got a bunch of my young ones last summer. The owl bit there heads off and took the bodies. I know it was a reat horn owl because it got caught in between the two layers of chicken wire the last time. At each attack it left a couple golden colered feathers.
