Duck Eggs extreme difference in size

I have three laying Appleyard's, 3, 2 & 1 years old. This is the first laying season for the one year old. The ducks free range all day and "All Flock" from TS is left out daily. All three has been laying and one egg seems to have been slightly smaller. Today I have one that is the size of...

Can a hawk grab a duck and fly off?

Both ducks were out of the water, one was on her way to the duck house for the night.

Can a hawk grab a duck and fly off?

A hawk killed two of my Appleyards. My wife scared off the hawk while on top of the last duck killed. One of the Appleyards was somewhat of a outcast of the flock and kept to herself, the other was coming in for the night. (BTW the ducks free range during the day and put up at night). I do...

    NO EGGS

Thanks for your reply. I have Silver Appleyard, last year they laid all winter with only a short break. They laid so many we were giving them away. BUT, Drake and one hen are almost two years old, three hens are almost a year and one hen is only four months. We will see how it goes.

    NO EGGS

My ducks (five ducks and a drake) stopped laying eggs over two months ago and went into molt. They also has more or less stopped eating All Flock from TSC. But, they are free range and eating in and around the pond all day and my wife feeds them lots of mealworms. (Two or three handfuls a day)...

    What to Do?

I have a hen and drake three months old and four other hens and one drake. The plan was to harvest the young drake and let the duck join the flock. To help with this transition I let the two young ducks join the flock in free ranging. It has been five days now and it seems to be going better...

    Molting ducks

Since this is my first full year with ducks, I must say they have been a joy. Since the ducks are molting, my drake has lost all interest in the hens, He is also hard to tell apart from the hens. I assume this is normal, and he will regain his color and begin breeding next spring or should I...

    Harvest Silver Appleyard Ducks

I have a couple of Silver Appleyard Drakes I need to harvest. They are three months old. At what age should I consider to harvest them?

What to do with my young ducks?

I have three 2 month old ducks along with five older ducks (one drake & four hens). Two of the three young ducks are drakes (head color is changing), which I don't need. I thought about selling both drakes, but I am afraid the single hen will be rejected by the flock. I already have one of...

    Agressive Drake Toward One Duck

I have five adult Appleyards (4 hens 1 Drake), the Drake has singled out one female and became very aggressive, chasing her away from treats given, isolating her from the rest of the flock, chasing her long distances over land and water to mate and harassing her even at night in the duck house...

When do Silver Appleyard ducklings change head?

I have three ducklings born June 29th about 45 days ago, they are feathering out nicely, but when can I tell the drakes. Currently they all look like hens, which is fine with me. One duck's quack has changed from a peep to sounding like the adult ducks. Any suggestions?

    Water at night

Thanks to all of you, I decided to make sure they eat and drink before going in for the night and remove their food and water. It seems to be working out fine.

    Water at night

Thanks for your message. I took away the water and food from the five adults about 8 months ago and it worked out fine. I guess at what age should I do it with the new ducks? Although the adults free range all day with a large pond (1/2 acre) I still feed and water them before they get put up...

    Water at night

I have three 43 day old Appleyards and they are doing, what I think, great! Yesterday was the first day I let them in the outdoor pen all day, prior it has been a few hours at a time . The outdoor pen is 24' x 24' with grass for now. They have a kiddie pool, which they spent a lot of the day...

    Fencing

Looking for suggestions for type of fencing for a daytime pen. Currently my ducks are free range and come in at night. This would be if we have someone “duck sit” for a day or two. Since my ducks are shy around strangers it would be easier to put them up at night. I would worry about 2” x 4”...

    Ants in Quack House

First I want to say the four week old "Toddlers" are doing great after we moved them from the brooder to the Quack House a week ago. The chicks, 10 days old, are also doing well in the brooder. Now, I purchased 10lbs of mealworms, since everything loves the worms, I took them out of the...

    Splayed Legs in Duckling

I was thinking of moving the larger three ducks to the divided duck house. It has been extremely worm in Middle Tennessee so the weather doesn't seem to be a factor. I installed hardware cloth between them and the adult ducks for safety. Currently they are three weeks old and has outgrown...
