What if we put multiple levels of roosting bars bars so they could use them like jumping stairs? Thats what they seem to do with the roosts that are multi-leveled right now. They each wait their turn to jump down to the next level down. Does that make sense?
Thanks for the questions! So, apparently if the nesting boxes are dark, they won’t want to sleep in there (according to our research), which is why we chose to put the boxes higher. The nesting boxes have tunnels to them. So, we’re hoping they won’t want to sleep in there. But we shall see. So...
Hey, hey! Remember me? We started to build a chicken coop and it never got finished….. until now. 3 years, a baby, many weddings and funerals, and a whole lot of chaos later, my coop is finally done! The only thing left is filling in the dirt around the edge of the run and extending the skirting...
I’m still here! We kinda put the homestead on hold the past two ish years after our newest addition to our family, but we’re back into the swing of things after finally getting enough (ish) sleep at night and him being able to play with his oldest brothers. Pics of my new coop coming soon, we...
My husband and I would like to allow our chickens to free range in our pranced. Our question is this: will they eat the leaves on our bushes and trees? We already know they will eat the fruit/berries.
Yeah, I decided just to let animal control handle it because my 9-month-pregnant hormones would make it very hard to control my anger towards them if I confronted them about it. My other neighbors have my back though, they have had animal control called on them multiple times for neglecting...
Update: my neighbor called this morning letting us know two had escaped into her yard (my favorite Silkie and another one of my ladies). The one from our coop last night is doing well, the Silkie had no wounds, but the other lady who escaped has woods on her back, I’m surprised she escaped. I’m...
I just went and checked on her before I went to bed (and to show my husband the crime scene) she won’t even let me go near her at the moment. She did get up and I noticed that she was missing some feathers. Still didn’t see any blood. But I hope she’s OK. Should I trap her in the corner and pick...
I think so, but I decided best to leave her be until tomorrow when she has calmed down. She seemed traumatized (with good reason) and was all puffed up in the corner of the chicken coop. I feel so bad for her. All of her buddies are gone and she’s left to live alone until I can get new chicks. I...
I’m so disappointed and sad and angry. My neighbors dogs climbed our 6 foot fencing that’s around our whole yard, got past our electric fencing somehow and into our chicken run and killed every single one of our chickens except for one. I don’t even know how they got into my chicken run. I’m...
Haha, for real though. Really, the Wi-Fi is so we can have a booster to make the WiFi work all over our property. And so I can talk on the phone while sitting in my chair on the porch. 🤣
Here is the latest. Got the porch framed, got all the windows except for the clear story, and the door put on! Sorry for poor quality, it was night time by the time I could take a picture, will try to get better pics later in the weekend. It should be wired for WiFi/electric next week.
