I found my 3 year old female pekin dead this morning in the duck's kiddie pool. Her mate was swimming beside her - so sad. Now that leaves me with 2 males and 1 female - not good. So is it too late to order 2-3 more female ducklings this late in the season? I live in the NE of United States...
i had to dig up all my raspberry bushes this spring and relocate them outside of the fenced in yard - away from my pekin ducks who loved them all too much! Now a wild rabbit has discovered them!

I can't tell you about runners....but as for my pekins, well...you've heard of the expression "A bull in a china shop"
I do let my hens and ducks into the garden late fall, all winter, and early spring - not just growing season!
My 3 year old female pekin has never completely grown in her feathers from her early spring molt. She seems healthy, but the tips of both her wings are missing their feathers for a good 3-4 inches leaving sort of a "skeleton" or "rib" look on the wing tips.
Any ideas?Myra
It seems that some garter snakes have taken up residence underneath the duck coop. Wil they harm my peking ducks and/or eat the eggs (or will they meander over 5 feet to the chicken coop which is off the ground and harm them and/or their eggs?)

Okay - my 1 1/2 year old pekin female has developed a weird neck walk - let's see if I can describe it...it's like neck has a crick in it or that her head has been jammed down so she really doesn't have a neck....then when she walks she kind of bobs her head to the side. Does that make sense...
I'd just give her a small kid's pool and/or a large water dish (they sell them for horse's - black rubberized thing) - as my pekins love sitting in their water dishes more than the kid's pool!
Okay -
I got 4 buff orphinton chicks and 2 pekins a year ago - everything went fine until one of the pekins decided she was a he at 8 months and as a drake he started trying to mate with the hens. So I had to seperate the drake from the flock in the morning so everyone could calmly lay their...
I have 4 buff orphintons - a year old.
Here's my question.....what type of "health care" do I need to be aware of for my ducks besides proper food and housing?

I have 4 pekin ducks - a male and female a year old plus 2 hatched April 20th (I was hoping for 2 more females but....still keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have another male/ female pair!)

I've been keeping my 5 week old pekins in seperate areas seperated by chicken wire from the two adult pekins (1 year olds) - one male, one female. SO today I thought I'd put the adult female with the 5week olds for a bit - sort of introduction time! Well, it's my 5-week old females that kept...
I havn't been through a molt yet with my year old pekin drake & hen nor with my 4 chickens - so I don't know what to look for...do they go completely featherless? If they just lose a few feathers at a time and are quickly replaced with new feathers at the same time, I may never know as the...
