6x8 is far too small. 8x8 is an improvement. 8x10 even better!!

The Omega Rocks: The Last & Ultimate Barred Plymouth Rock Flock

That sweet giant. She does look miserable. I'm glad that she'll go outside and scratch around a little bit. There really isn't much you can do other than offer them the best of care, and wait.

The Omega Rocks: The Last & Ultimate Barred Plymouth Rock Flock

They are incredibly nosy about everything, every time I go in the pen he's somewhere close by me but acting like he's just there by chance. Last summer I had five little roosters all in that pen with the hens and never a fight.

They also make 6-in wide blocks as well as the standard 8-in construction ones, which are lighter and less expensive, and would work quite well.

And likely get some advantage from having that wood in there, helping to retain moisture and slowly decaying. You don't need stainless steel rebar either, regular steel rebar, even though it rusts, will last beyond our lifetime. A lot of times lumber yards will cut them for free for you, and...

The Omega Rocks: The Last & Ultimate Barred Plymouth Rock Flock

I adore my little bantam speckled Sussex, they are good tempered and friendly, never seen or heard of a bad tempered rooster, and they talk a lot.

Up here too, but we are close enough to the Lakes that it makes it a little less likely

There is always another dog that needs a home. Or cat. Or goat. Or horse. Or chicken.

I wonder if moving him around a little bit with a long stick would work? I've done that with a few birds that got a little too cozy and just taught them to watch their distance. Never whacked or swung the stick, just tapped them with it if they got close enough for me to reach. Mostly with the...

One of my least favorite parts of fall is when the woods fall silent. I used to think it was because the birds were no longer nesting and mating. But after watching the migrations on this site's map, I realize it's because there are way, way fewer birds as well. One night alone last week over...

I avoid mushroom identification, just too tricky for me. There very likely could be some decaying plant matter in that crevice that doesn't necessarily affect the health of the tree

The Omega Rocks: The Last & Ultimate Barred Plymouth Rock Flock

I never really considered having more than one rooster at a time until I had five bantam speckled Sussex last summer:thand they got along just fine. I have one adult male and a juvie boy, and it's the hens that pick on him, not my main man. I have also noted that some roosters are really rough...

The Omega Rocks: The Last & Ultimate Barred Plymouth Rock Flock

I think you are expecting too much from yourself. I understand what it's like to have too much going on. I'm still working full-time and have other things constantly intruding, ending up in a lot of frustration many days. I think if you expected less from yourself and less from your birds you...

Even sweeter. The large fowl boys can be a little tricky sometimes, The bantams seem to be amazingly sweet. Of course they are very talky just like the big ones.
