    Confused... Pasty butt or more???

It usually runs around 70-75 degrees ferenheit in the bathroom. I have the lamp on one side, the water is on the cooler side of the brooder. I'll turn the heater down and see if that helps. Thank you so much!

    Confused... Pasty butt or more???

Ok, at first I thought it was just pasty butts, so I took to soaking rear ends in Luke warm water... Chicks still dying. I've lost around 95% of the chicks I've hatched. They seem fine one minute dead the next literally within hours. I've been told by the owner of our local co-op that it sounds...

Bantam Black Australorp hen X New Hampshire Red roo, outcome?

I've read over and over how the black australorp X New Hampshire is not sex-linked but my babies are hatching 2 different color patterns so I'm confused. The first and last so far to hatch are both black with white chests and white on their wings, the "middle child" our Christmas chick is...

    NPIP certification...... Info please?

I've been seeing a lot on NPIP flock certification while I'm looking for stock and hatching eggs. I'm new to all this, why have my flock certified and do I have to register as a hatchery too since I hatch my own babies? I do sell some chicks when I have too many of a certain kind but I don't...

    What breed are these chicks?

In the batch of cinnamon queens (I know they are supposed to be color sexable) one is bigger than the rest and carries itself as a roo he is almost solid white, the other 6 seem to have a reddish or yellow tint to their feathers but hard to tell with the lighting. The chicks in these pics are...

    What breed are these chicks?

I sent my dad to the Newcastle poultry auction and he purchased 7 RIR day old chicks (4 out of 7 died within a few hours of being home) 7 cinnamon queens(different seller, all doing well) and 21 "sex links" but I've never seen a sex link that looked link these. What are they? They are from the...

    Runny noses?

They were all quarantined. I went to the feed store for antibiotics today, they had just sold the last pack so I'm ordering some tonight. I did find out whatever this illness is, it's air borne. A lot of flocks have caught this around here. The feed store has sold 10 packs of poultry antibiotics...

    Runny noses?

I purchased some chickens (3 adult birds and 21 chicks) from a private owner. Everyone was healthy, my 2 I already had were also healthy. The little white bantam hen involved in the purchase got chilled one night so I brought her inside with the younger chicks, a couple days in she was acting...

Not sure which he is, RIR or New Hampshire??

Thank you all for your help and very much useful information. I have some chicks I'll be posting once their adult feathers finish coming in. Not sure what all breeds they are. Bought them for eggs and meat, 2 are strictly pets (the frizzle and the silkie) couldn't pass up the deal. Ended up with...

New to incubating, temperature help needed ASAP.

Is that good or bad this early? The eggs are from day 1 to day 7 that are in right now. I was going to wait on this most recent egg until I had a few more but my mom braved her fear of chickens (mostly the roo) and got the egg that I was leaving in there so the hen would keep laying. I didn't...

Not sure which he is, RIR or New Hampshire??

This is my new rooster "Sunny" I was told he's a New Hampshire but he looks an awful lot like my late rooster BirdBird (RIP buddy!) who's a RIR. Any opinions?

New to incubating, temperature help needed ASAP.

Could that be why my humidity guage keeps reading EE? The booklet that came with it doesn't say what causes that or how to fix it. Before it started reading that the humidity was staedy at 46-48 at any given time.

ISO Fertile eggs, chicks, adolescents or adults

I can do it Sunday or Monday, I'm paid in cash and work weekends. How many are there? The incubator has been set up and ready to go for nearly a week.
