That bird ended up dying, despite separating her and treating the wounds.
I just came home to find another one dead today, also with...
...worse...
... the male escaped when we were trying to isolate her.
None of these birds are smart enough to use the recall chute in the side of their pen (thats how we lost the other males) so he's probably a goner. So much for my grand quail experiment. ******.
Well first happy news - my California's laid their first egg today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
... but also some bad news; one of the hens has been BADLY pecked. We have 6 hens and 1 male, and for whatever reason he just really likes (or hates, I guess) this one hen.
Shes missing...
