Brinsea technical support lacks technical know-how

I am waiting on a friend to return from his winter Vacay, he may be able to help. Of course if parts are required then I will have to try and find a schematic somewhere...??? Of course you are welcome. I certainly had never heard of bad support from Brinsea before I bought back in 2015...wish...

Brinsea technical support lacks technical know-how

I recently started up my Brinsea Ova Easy 100 to join the Easter hatch a long, but discovered that it would not heat up. I checked everything I could and could find nothing wrong, so I called Brinsea. Now I should say, some of what I will write below I found out on my own after talking with...

Value ratio between cockerels and pullets

Well, I was trying to avoid asking for a specific price, as prices vary (I'm in Canada, so even currency varies). Anyway, these are very good looking Black Copper Marans. How many times more valuable is a 6 month pullet to a 6 month cockerel?

Value ratio between cockerels and pullets

I am looking for your opinion on the ratio between cockerels and pullets when it comes to selling them. I know the average price of a cockerel in my area, how many times more than that price should a 6 month old pullet be? For example, if a cockerel of my breed is $20, should a pullet be $80...

Black Copper Marans - Time progression of sexing - UPDATED with WEEKs #1-3 PICTURES

    1. Its been so long since the tag line was changed...I'm pretty sure you have to email one of the admins to get it done, but I don't remember the email address. 2. Ha ha ha...it was an honorary title...;-] My flock is intended to provide me with severely dark brown eggs which I sell as eating...

Black Copper Marans - Time progression of sexing - UPDATED with WEEKs #1-3 PICTURES

I currently have chicks from 3 hatches in my young birds coop. They are all from eggs laid by my own hens, with the same roosters as fathers. The hens and roosters are from 3 different blood lines, but all look solidly BCM. One group are 5 weeks less a day old, others are 1 week old today, and...

International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Its been almost a year since ITL decimated my flock. I have since decontaminated and waited almost 4 months and am about to refurbish my coops. So, I am trying to decide how to repopulate. My goal is to have a BCM flock of between 100 and 200 for eggs and meat. I have an OVA 100 and so I...

BCM Roo x Red Selinks - 3 generations and they're a new BCM?

Yesterday I processed 17 generation 2 birds from my project. The results are extremely disappointing. The majority of the birds ended up between 1.6kg and 2.0kg, and most birds processed @60% of original weight. This results in a terrible yield, especially considering they are at least 20 weeks...

Hatch-a-long for people who don't have much time

I put stress aid in the water before they were put out to the brooder, and each one was dipped in water to teach them, and there are 2 3 week olds in the brooder with them to keep teaching them...??? No sure what else I can do. The last hatch had no such die off. Its certainly possible that...

Hatch-a-long for people who don't have much time

My eggs are coming from Gen 1, so producing Gen 2. I leave the doors open 24/7, actually thinking of putting a fan in there. There are 8 thermostatically adjusted ports, 4 in the ceiling and 4 in the wall.

Hatch-a-long for people who don't have much time

All of my birds have been fathered by BCMs.

Hatch-a-long for people who don't have much time

I get that, I just don't have a solution atm. At night it gets to near freezing, so the plates are needed, but how to turn them off when its > 100F? I have removed one, in hopes the chicks can find enough room to stay at a temperature that will suit them.

Hatch-a-long for people who don't have much time

Day 22 was interesting. I got another 9 chicks hatched, but I lost 10 chicks in the brooder. All died under the Premier1 brooding plates, so that's strange. I put them out at like 3:00pm, so I wonder if they fried...my brooder is in my greenhouse which maxes 116F currently in the day time. I had...

Hatch-a-long for people who don't have much time

Day 20 has finished and I have 53 hatches out of 84 viable eggs. Another 9 have pipped well, so I am at 67.95% hatch rate so far. Interestingly, the ratio of dark chicks to light chicks is changing. Last hatch, lights represented 29% of the hatch. So far, lights are only 21% of this hatch.

Hatch-a-long for people who don't have much time

Day 19 today. 81.63% fertility rate. I've been using the idea of low air flow until day 19, the idea as I understand it is to get weak eggs to fail before the end. I would much rather toss a red ring egg than take out a 2 day old dead chick. Last hatch this worked well, I have very few chicks...

Hatch-a-long for people who don't have much time

Day 9 and I used my new high powered flashlight to candle. Even very dark shelled eggs are revealed. 1 RR, and 9 clears, gives me an impressive fertility rate.

Hatch-a-long for people who don't have much time

So, this is my 5th hatch of ~100 this year. Things are getting better, I have an 80% fertility rate and an 80% hatch rate, so 64 out of 100 now. I'm hatching my own eggs, creating generation 2 of my own breed. My layers have come back into their own and are now giving me 25 or so (from 38...

Moving mama hen so the chicks won't fall out of the nesting box 3 ft in the air and get hurt

Like all babies, chicks are pretty resilient to falls. My bator is 32" in the air, and I have had more than a few chicks step out of the tray and off the counter to fall the 32" to the ground...and not one has broken anything yet. That said, your broody is not likely going to manage to get a...

    Late Feburary-Early March 2016 Hatch-A-Long!

Prior to my last setting, I did like you, rotating the eggs several times a day and keeping them in a cool dark place. Today's setting, however, is made up of eggs with every reason to fail. I have just placed 83 eggs in my Brinsea cabinet (Ova 100), which is every egg my birds laid over the...
