Yay! Thank you! I’ve hatched chicken and duck eggs several times, but I wanted to make sure there wasn’t any big differences when it comes to quail, so this thread is exactly what I needed! Thanks!
Been rainy the last few days...has been a nice warm spring otherwise so far. Supposed to have a break from the rain tomorrow, with plans to plant a bunch in the garden, then it's supposed to rain again for 3-4 days.
I just think they are too small to be Rouens though...Rouens are about the size of Pekins, and these are only about as big as wild ducks. I don't really care what breed they are, but for the 3 I'd like to sell I'd like to have a good idea. Thanks to all who have responded. Sorry the pics...
You want to keep them warm and dry, and also safe. So if your coop is secure, and they need the space, and you can keep them warm, I think you are ok to go for it. I moved 3 week olds out when it was in the mild part of spring, with a heat lamp in their coop, and a cover over the run if it was...
Oh no! I had an early hatcher, and then that was my only one that hatched. I didn't have my brooder ready, so I just moved some stored clothes out of one of the large rubbermaid totes I had, and used that. Yay for finding puddles! Hopefully you can get it all worked out without too much...
That's crazy about quail! i had thought about getting some, but not sure it would be worth it. I only had the one little chick hatch...one more looked really good, but never pipped. I just got 4 week old light brahma chicks from a friend so she has company now at least! They are soooo sweet...
...quite have the look of Call ducks too me...could they be poor quality calls? Rouen/Runner crosses? I need a good guess so I can sell them. Then I *think* the light brown/fawn colored duck is a Buff and that the all gray drake is a Buff drake...they are not large enough to be Khaki...
Only 1. :( Poor little lone chicky! I've been battling pasty butt with it too...but otherwise it seems ok. I put my turkey egg in fx it hatches. I just got two free 3 month old jersey giant pullets from a friend though, so yay for that!
Oh no!!! Good luck!! fx!!
One lone chicky! If a few more don't hatch soon I might have to indulge my urges to take pictures of this lone Chickie in tea cups and knit tiny things for it! Lol
I love corned beef! Unfortunately, like many things, I'm the only one in the house who does. Still have started dinner...gonna be a late dinner tonight because in headed out to work on a rabbit hutch. We didn't celebrate Mother's Day really...also as usual...I bought myself an apple tree and...
I should give it another shot...I haven't had it often, I just love rosemary so much I tend to stick to what I know.
Our kids are 9, 7, 5, 4, and 1. We homeschool. Free time would be lovely! I'm so behind on my very long list of to-do's!
My apple tree is still little...I was hoping for a...
Hey there! Room for me on the swing? First time seeing this thread, and though I would join in. :)
Cat's...I found a really sweet black and white kitten with a mustache that I want, but hubby is allergic. We kept our other cat outside for the most part, but he would sleep in the house at...
I'm so sorry you are dealing with this. It seems like a sticky situation for sure. I would definitely seek a new lawyer. Unfortunately I'm on the other side of the country, and am not very well versed in this area. I hope you can get things worked out though!
So our little farm officially has it's FIRST chicken!!!! Our first Isa Brown egg hatched on Day 19...pic once I get it uploaded. Chicky is doing well...but none of the other 7 have even pipped yet ...5:00am today is day 21...so that at least a few more hatch. I'd be thrilled to even end up...
"Pullets" means all girls...i.e. you would most likely buy them for egg laying.
You need a lid on your brooder, as suggested...even with a lid my little turkey poult I had a couple years ago would always get out.
Chickens are skittish...in my experience at least. I personally don't mind if...
I accidentally put this within the quote, so I'm going to post it again to see what you guys think...I am having a hard time getting the temp to stay above 99-100...humidity is good though. Do you think the eggs could still hatch? I'm going to take the one baby out in the morning...or maybe...
