    FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

I got all my chicks from McPherson, mille fleurs d'uccles, araucanas and also got two pairs of button quails. Very nice and the buttons laid on the first day I had the girls home. I can recommend them for sure. She has all colors of buttons and just hatched some more. She also has coturnix...

a chick died randomly! help please!

I had a chick die randomly, and fast. It was fine Saturday morning. I noticed it was "excluded" from my other chicks and sleepy/lethargic compared to earlier in the day but it was night and ate and drank on it's own when roused at that point. I was away most of today and when I got home it...

    Araucana thread anyone?

...face so far, besides the "eyebrows." They have all been quite slow to feather but one, the mille fleur d'uccles ("bossy" snuck in the second as *she* does for everything lol) are about a week younger and all have full wing feathers and small tails already. So, to clarify for me, you can't...

    Araucana thread anyone?

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/260313/ameraucana-thread-for-posting-pictures-and-discussing-our-birds/19470#post_10885732 I posted in the Americana thread too, pics at the above link (have uploading issues intermittently for whatever reason). A BYC member acquired eggs from a breeder...

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

The add calls them "American" chicks lol. I personally can only guess how they are not Ameraucana, still trying to learn the propper morphology. The one doesn't look like it has a beard, maybe no muffs either, and the legs are greenish. Is that right? That's why I wonder about mine. The legs...

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Hmm, I tried to upload photos but the post is blank. Seems pretty straightforward but this forum is not happy with one of my computers for some reason. It also won't allow me to write separate paragraphs on this computer. Darn, I still can't show the babies to everyone. Ok, it works on...

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

What does the range in tones of blue chicks mean about adult plumage, if anything? I have four, two lighter and two darker. One of the lighter chicks also has "eyebrows" where the light, almost yellowish color that is on the belly creeps up above the eye if that makes sense. Curious if the...

    Question on GMO feed

Think about it what is absolute about "smaller?" Smaller than... what? A cave man? An h3 driving, air at 68 F in Florida man? I would hope we would strive to have as small of a carbon footprint as possible within our means. All orders of life on earth have some footprint.

    Question on GMO feed

Not exactly ad hominem but yes. GMOs are a serious topic, One wonders why ad hominem attacks are necessary here.   I hate it when moderates cannot try to join a conversation.  We just get to watch idiots on both ends of a spectrum lob logic bombs at each other. I quit. No more BYC for me...

    Lavender Ameraucana Breeders .... UNITE

That's my logic too, just curious how one would tell if they were side by side. Another member indicates that you can see the difference, so what is it?

Sand in the brooder -- it's worth it!

Good! It's really fun to watch them on sand I think, it looks really "natural" for them. I sort of went with that mode of thinking- a chance to be exposed to local pathogens in small doses plus more like what a mama hen could provide. Mine did not have any trouble over eating sand at all.

    Question on GMO feed

Wow, you are kidding right? Harsh, unnecessary, and, in that tone, you do realize that "smaller" is a relative qualifier?

    Lavender Ameraucana Breeders .... UNITE

I have a newbie question- how can you tell lavender chicks from blue chicks? I picked up four lovely chicks from a local member which of course I will love regardless but I am so curious as to which they will be. We don't have parent lines so I have been assuming blues due to genetic...

Sand in the brooder -- it's worth it!

I switched mine from kitchen towels to sand when the youngest was 5 days old. I used plain old Florida sugar sand from outside. They didn't eat an excessive amount and have dust bathed and everything. It is just as messy as the towels but it is easy to sift clean. I like it personally if the...

    D'uccle Thread

I do love mine already, their wings and tail feathers are just showing the passed couple of days. So far, despite three colors of down, the feathers are the same base color. They are bossy little things lol. Much more curious and assertive than the larger and araucanas they are with. I love...

    Question on GMO feed

I agree completely. I don't see a need other than cost-control for much of the engineering the "antis" take issue with and don't feel the need to eat a giant red and flavorless tomato. I stick with my tasty local produce as much as possible. But I also know how said engineering really works...

    Question on GMO feed

I don't think it's out of hand, it's very good that in this country we can have open and honest discourse whether or not we agree. My point is that we should not go around attacking something we don't understand simply because we don't understand it. All of your remaining points fall into the...

    Question on GMO feed

How about something NOT from a propaganda website? Gotta learn how discern real data from social media. If any website can be proof I can also prove Jesus rode a dinosaur and aliens regularly visit earth, perhaps to chat with sasquatch. Easy benefits found in medicine all the time. See my...

    Question on GMO feed

So true. In my mind it's because the sciences have become so technical that it is difficult to convey what is actually going on to the public so there is a big information gap that just keeps growing. It's frustrating. A phenylalanine is TTT whether your body coded it or a lab somewhere...
