    Should I take them?

I say heck yes as long as they're healthy and have had all their shots. I had a good deal on a pair of alpines but ended up bringing home pinkeye that has infected my whole herd. You might want to keep the newbies seperate from any others you have for awhile.

first time incubating, first set of eggs went in about an hour ago

Sometimes every time feels like the first time when you're hatching out babies. If you're like me, you'll have your face glued to that bater checking for pips, zips, peeps, and babies from day 19 on. I barely sleep at night when I have them pipping. It's like Christmas or something...

    I have three duckies!

...age for sexing duckies. I know nothing about vent sexing other than what the Amish people around here have told me and I still don't get it. *sigh* My duckies are finally big enough to run around and free range with my chickens. It's sooooo much fun to watch them in a mud puddle...

    Best age for sexing ducks

Since I bought straight run ducks, I have no idea who it what. These kids are five-ish weeks old and are mostly feathered out. 2 Pekin 2 Campbells 1 What-cha-ma-call-it About how old are they when they start to "quack" or for drakes to have the tail curl? Not that it matters really...

12 day old hatchling with crossbeak.

My favorite hen was one with crossbeak. She was hand fed a lot in order to make sure that she got enough, so she got pretty spoiled. If she saw me walk to the shed (where I keep feed) she'd fly right up and sit on my arm. After she'd eat, she'd pick at my hair and rest in my lap...

    35 yrs. & heart attack...update p.14

That had to be a terrible thing for you to go though. I suppose that the upside of it is that now you know that you'll have to keep things checked out. So glad that you're able to be home with your family now.

I have noticed this about BYC...

Ya think this is bad -- try a parenting message board. Those get super nasty. I think that sometimes, it's just the nature of message boards. There will always be the ones who just want to argue and make others feel crappy. You're right -- it's a shame.

    What good are goats?

I have nothing to add really as I've only had goats for a week, but wanted to agree that it truly is sad that many children don't understand where their food comes from. It's so good for kids to have a variety of farm animals to raise. It makes them appriciate their food more and respect...
