@dawg53 @azygous @Eggcessive I have a 5 year old Easter Egger hen whose crop just won't empty. I knew she wasn't well when I saw that she hadn't emptied her crop when I let them out of the coop in the morning. Literally, last year she had the same thing happen and she needed crop surgery...
My vet who treats exotics, small animals, and chickens told me that you really need to treat with Nystatin for at least 4 weeks. 1 week is not enough. Also avoid giving anything that promotes yeast growth, so avoid anything with sugar.
@Eggcessive -- Just curious, since Aquasol and Safeguard are both Fenbendazole, why is it that Aquasol cannot treat capillary and gapeworms? I went to Merck's site and they mention that, but of course if you look up Safeguard, since it is not indicated for poultry there is no information.
Hi Azygous-- I believe Calcium Lactate may be more bioavailable than Calcium Citrate. I am investigating this because I have a duck and a hen I have been giving calcium citrate to and the shells remain thin. I am going to try other forms of calcium.
I had a eggbound Indian Runner with a soft-shelled egg. She has been laying soft-shelled eggs no matter what I offer. It finally came out after a calcium pill and 2 doses of Calcium Gluconate.
I have a duck with a soft shell hanging out of her vent. I wonder how they can push it out if it is collapsed. I lost a duck to the exact same problem a few months ago and when I pulled out the crumpled compressed soft shell, I caused prolapse and the duck died after a couple days.
