Tarps on my hoop coop started to break down less than a year after being installed. I put a shade cloth on TOP and it has extended the life of the tarps, protected them some from the extreme sun we get here in eastern NC.
I recently switched out the first shade cloth with a new one that covers the entire coop. You can see the tarps in this photo:
