Thank you. That was very informative. But, I'm curious how the nuc's reduce the risks of robbing. Is it because they are smaller that they would be robbed first? Sorry if I missed it.
Our honey extraction day keeps evolving. We only had about 3 frames of mixed honey and none without the buckwheat in it. I have a feeling we will just combine it with the buckwheat. We do not like buckwheat...lol
Next year, we will pull the supers off before the buckwheat blooms and just let...
That's the first I've heard about losing foragers. I was thinking to put them on after dark. I figured they would all be back in the hive. Is the thinking that a lot of them don't make it back before dark and then come back in the morning? If so, that makes a lot of sense.
I hope he does...
Today's honey extraction is going to be selective. I was afraid that we had buckwheat mixed into our summer honey and I was right. We're extracting 4 frames at a time and choosing the ones with the least amount of buckwheat to extract first. Some of the frames are solid buckwheat on one side...
We currently have around 10 gallons, I hope that will last...;)
It's definitely fall here. We're enjoying the last of our 60° days. Rain and wind yesterday, calling for more of the same later today. Then looks nice the next few days.
Sounds like a day to enjoy a nice cup of tea, with a book...
Well, I think we have some hive robbing going on.
I've been wanting to add robbing screens, but we just haven't gotten around to it. Our lives have been so hectic. I flipped the entrance reducers for the time being. Hubs is looking at building the screens.
Bees are flying everywhere.
Currently 60°F & sunny here. It was rainy and windy yesterday. Calling for more of the same later today.
At least mowing is almost done for the season. We'll need to mow at least one more time.
