    Yay for packing peanuts!

If they turn out to be black sex links then yes, I do expect them to be all roos. If they are, they will live in the freezer. They were free, so we will find a use for them :)

    Feeding layers on a budget

Not sure what he has as far as breeds, they probably are all local-farmyard-heinz57 as that is what most farmers have around here. Most are a mix of barred rock, araucanda (sp), RIR and cochins, with some purebreds (or mixes from other farms) added every few years. Depending on how good of egg...

    Feeding layers on a budget

Heard that it makes the feed easier to digest by adding probios, and because they are digesting more they end up eating a little less. I'll look into the bread thing, but the main place around here for groceries really is walmart and I know that they can't/won't do that (I work there and I've...

    Feeding layers on a budget

Ok so our chicken budget is as close to zero as possible. Mostly because we are broke, but also because we have family that says we wont be able to raise them for as cheap as we think we will. We've recycled stuff from family to make the coop and run, worked out a deal with a local farmer to...

Off to build a coop! Suggestions?

Well today my roommates and I are going to go to my moms house to build a chicken coop. She said we can have whatever we can use, since our budget is $0 lol. So here's the thing. We live just outside of town, and we are in a duplex so space is very limited. We are looking to build a coop/run for...

If it was possible for you to rotate runs

Quote: Well they would have free range as well during the day, the runs would only be at night and so they could be outside if we were late getting them out one day or something.

If it was possible for you to rotate runs

Quote: Runs will be about 10x10 or so. I'm not sure how many chickens we will have (we don't have any yet) probably 8-10 layers. We will have meaties to but we have a separate area for them

If it was possible for you to rotate runs

Would you? The way my coop is set up, I have the option to set up two separate runs, with two separate entrance doors. So I could have both runs open all the time, or rotate. So which would you do?

Tell me (or show, pictures are always a good thing ) what you have done with pallets in the past. We have 5 or 6, and always have the opportunity to get more. There HAS to be some creative uses out there! Right now I just use mine for teaching my dogs how to control where they put their feet...

Help with a money saving plan?

Alright. My mom is going to need to refinance our house soon, and we are looking to save any money we can to put it towards some "sweat equity". We have a single car garage that I am planning on turning into a stockpile, and we will start some major coupon clipping. We are planning on raising...
