Yikes that sounds freaky! Since I cleaned that part of the coop out before putting the chicks out there and saw no holes or cracks critters can get through I'm leaning toward the canabalism theory at this point. Everything we've seen in the topic says any chicken can turn cannibal this young and...
We bought 10(all) chicks at Tractor Supply 3 weeks &5 days ago and put them in the tub until a few days ago while we added on to our current chicken house. We moved them out into their own area of the coop separated from the existing chickens by a chicken door covered in hardware cloth. All are...
I think that's what it was...some kind of lash egg. Most of those pucs looked like a funky potato, but a few looked very similar to what we had. Thanks again!
My husband brought in an egg from our Roosterless flock. It was cracked so he opened it to give to the dogs but we found a freaky, embryo-like blob, complete with what looked like eyes. So much so that my husband (an intelligent man) insisted it was an embryo, but later conceeded it was probably...

I agree with the others that said temps on the low side of that are better than the high ones. It sounds like you're saying that the temps fluctuate to 102. I would think that's pushing it a little too much.
Here's an update for ya.
I have been reading another thread about hatching and several have gotten shipped eggs with instructions to put them in the bator right away because the hot weather can cause the eggs to start developing. Duh, I hadn't considered that but it makes perfect sense! Sorry...
Is this your first hatch? I think the reason you let them settle for a couple days after recieving the eggs is because shipping is very hard on the air cell inside the egg and letting them sit for a day or so allows the air pocket(s) to re connect. The email says settling is a good idea. But...
I rescued a rat just like that from my son's python just minutes before he was due to become dinner! I said no way, he's too cute you go get that snake a cockroach or something! That rat was the sweetest little thing, I loved her. She lived 3 years. I forget what we fed her, it's been at least...
