Morning, a brisk 29⁰F (-1.6⁰C), with a forecast high hitting 60⁰F (15.5⁰C). Crowing didn't happen until AFTER I put the phone away. The moulting has hit, hard.
Sorry, shouldn't be laughing, but the whole mental image: screaming chooks, "go to bed! Screaming Kelly....snag a chook...turn about step on rat, screaming/dancing (high stepping) Kelly, chook getting swung about at ends of twin flailing arms...more screaming chooks, feathers and chooks bouncing...

Ummm....we come pretty close to year round free range. I have a single coop and NO run. The only time I don't open the coop doors is when temps are -10⁰F (-23⁰C) and will be staying there all day. I do provide feed year round, but the quantity consumed varies throught the year due to the...
It's a family: Tom, several hens, and the offspring. (Sounds like a chicken flock doesn't it) They must have had a very successful hatch this year. @Ponypoor keep an eye out for them again. Can you ID the number of juveniles in there?
I'm scratching my head over this one. The only other bird I have with silver Colombian markings is Daisy, Light Brahma (suspect more a light/dark cross). No beard. The only roo with a beard is Tuff, gold based. Offspring would be gold/light gold.
At the in-laws, no light brahmas. A moss egger...
Caught this just before heading to town after the rain (it finally opened up and soaked the ground).
Arabel, Matilda, and Koonj look tiny compared to the others....even Mortimer has shot up.
Depends upon the cockerel. Some make attempts as soon as they can be identified as a cockerel. Others wait until their pullet hatchmates start laying, and others even longer. The longest usually have at least 1 mature rooster teaching them the ropes. Cheetah crowed at 13-14 weeks, right after...
Went out for a photo op....wind, occasional mist (not even that much) and sitting at about 50⁰F (10⁰C). Adults (some of them) were willing to pose. Chicklets... not so much. Only pics of Tundra I could get that were NOT of a backside, without the tail pop.that's Hawthorne along side.
Glad Tundra got named something could go on either gender. And looks like a 4:3 cockerel to pullet ratio. Barring necessary behavioral removals, will put me at 4.5 to 1 hen to roo, I think..... behaviors will dictate the long term outcome.
