Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Mighty doesn’t mean experienced. He needs more of that under his belt it seems. How old is he?

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

This is the plant that I was feeding Butters a small leaf of, and she pulled it and I lost my grip. She downed the whole thing, she was on the other side of the fence, and by the time I ran around she had eaten it all. She then appeared ill some days later, and stopped eating and was doing...

Great! He is a mighty rooster! Haven’t seen many pictures of him standing, mostly either a close-up of his head or sitting on your chest, so this is nice. Thank you!

Since he's so young maybe he ought to apply to be a royal Squire first? Like an apprentice Knight. PS I'd like to see more pictures of him!

In other words, you're holding out on them! :gig

Turkeys could bring gapeworm in. Good to protect them from the respiratory illness on your premises but they might trade you for a parasite!

The wash of saddle feathers look like Shehnai’s did, and maybe the way the hackle feathers lie, possible boy?

Any way you could put it in a cage that the smallest can’t get into?

Can you find & monitor any Aussie or southern hemisphere threads on BYC? That’s one of the things I did in 2022 when I was up in the night managing pain! @MaryJanet had a thread and a sweet bunch of hens. Also @Ribh was active…I don’t have time to check in specifically with them these days. :(

I was looking for her (or Sidney) sitting somewhere inconspicuously, really blending in, & still couldn’t find her! :p

Hopefully will catch up on this thread. Saw this because of notification....that comb does not look anything like the pea combs I've seen here with Buckeyes. There are variations, but here they've all been nubbly one way or another - little rows of them, or a middle row bigger, or just a single...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Hey! Normal-sized! It's some others that may be Petite-sized... :gig I'm noticing Shehnai is very interested in his rooster duties. He seems to be more alert than the pullets. He is more often looking at the sky and standing tall looking around while they mosey about. He gives warning grunts...

Excavation hopefully done, at least the major work. It was exhausting. Now need to get the big coop on the right turned 90 degrees to the right and the little coop on the upper left down to the excavated space and attached once the run extension is finished, which I estimate is one more days...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Heard squawking and saw Shehnai was balancing on a pullet yesterday. There’s been yelping but haven’t seen himgo that far before. Maybe their hormones are starting up? They are 20 weeks old tomorrow. Working hard on excavating for the second coop further away, run still not finished but DH was...

No…Seeing only seven…if that’s Hattie in the back left (Hattie, LadyF, Aster, Aurora), then I don’t see Sidney…..?

I thought he is a Speckled Sussex? He won't just be brown. They are pretty spectacular roos! From Meyer's:

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Correct on the second part, not on the first! The last couple of days have been pretty calm but everything just takes me a long time to do. I'm worried about getting it done before it's miserable weather (my fingers are terrible in the cold). The new Buckeyes do not have a finished covered run...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

The big deal on rhododendrons is any honey produced from the flowers, that’s been a problem for humans. I haven’t read anything about the bees being affected. Haven’t seen any hens or chicks eat fresh or old dead leaves here. It’s not likely anyone would want to, as the toxin produces a burning...
