    Last year I processed 25 Cornish X's, I had a person from an oddities shop buy all the heads. Weird, I know. This year they aren't buying, is there something to do with the heads? Or best to just scrap them?

    Sweet Feed?

    I once knew a Hawaiian man that swore on feeding his meat birds (Cornish X) a sweet feed plus meat bird feed. That it would lend a better, sweeter taste to the meat. Any truth to this??

    I wanted to through my local feed store, they wouldn't answer my emails, so I went to a different feed store that could help me. I had a certain time frame that I needed the birds and couldn't wait any more. Next time I'll just order the birds my self. :idunno

    Sorry. They are Cornish cross, housed in an 8x10 run, fed 10 hours a day. Large birds processed at 8 weeks, smaller birds at 9 weeks. I rest the meat 2 days then vacuumed sealed and into the freezer. All of my meat birds eat the Nutrena Meat Bird feed. 20% protein I think. We did this group in...

    I processed another 12 birds and this time the meat is stringy and slightly tough. I've raised lots of meatbirds and I did nothing different this time, except using a plucker and they came from a different hatchery. Any ideas?? Anyone else have this issue?

    In Nevada. I do fall chicks in october/November. Or spring chicks going outside by March first, or the week after.

    I'm feeding a layer pellet from Nutrena, Naturewise. I was feeding the regular 16% protein and had the same issue. Seems like it's a winter time issue. I'm collecting eggs today as they get laid to see if it isn't a temperature issue.

    I just had that thought, maybe they got too cold. I always collect eggs every evening. The eggs would never freeze, but they could be 35-40 degrees.

    After 10 days to 2 weeks they don't really need a heat lamp. I had a 3 sided shelter for mine with deep straw, they were fine. In Las Vegas.

    Why are my hard boiled eggs pastey? It's not how I'm cooking them. My chickens are 10 months old to 2.5 years old. I'm feeding a 21% protein layer feed, and nothing really for snacks. When they are hard boiled the whites are just like paste, it's weird. Any ideas?

    How to house meat birds?

    I use an 8x10 dog pen with a small 3 sided shelter. No roosts, they won't use them. I added straw to the whole pen, after 8 weeks I rake it out and add to the garden. It's really dry here so the poo dries quickly and it isn't as messy as you'd think. I had 12 in this setup.

    I have actually found someone to buy the heads and feet for art and other mystical uses. The innards are cooked and eaten by us or the dogs, and the bones make yummy broth.
