@NatJ thank you! Since the roof is so tall (8 foot on one end and 10 foot on the other), the roosting bars will be nowhere near these gaps. I plan on making my roosting bars quite low to the ground so I am able to go in and pluck the birds from them in case I need to treat for anything in the...

Was thinking a long these lines as well, to bend it into place to fill the gap and secure it to the wood. Thank you!

We put more framing cross-pieces along the underside of the roof and it will hold up, I'll be adding more cross beams inside the structure once the hardware cloth is on, and we're adding 1x2's as framing outside the hardware cloth and on top of the seams like in your picture.

Mostly racoons, but I've heard weasels can get in through a 1" gap. I don't know if we have them, but I'd rather err on the side of caution.

Finished the roof in our new coop/run today. Painting and all the hardware cloth goes up next. Seeking recommendations for how to seal that top inch with a predator proof covering. I want to do hardware cloth on the coop end (for a little ventilation), but not sure where/how to secure it. Then...

What's the best solution to protect the floor? Honestly, I used exterior paint on my last floor and have had no issues whatsoever.

Got the new coop/run framed out and one panelling section put up. Anyone have any good recommendations for a peel and stick vinyl that is cheap but good for a coop floor?

Whoops. Hubby mis-measured and instead of a 6x8 coop we ended up with an 8x8. Whatever am I to do? 🐣 I'm so happy that everything is turning out level. Level nesting box window and level base. This will make for happier birds, I think.

Day 1 of new coop/run rebuild! There isn't anything wrong with the old coop and run, I've just realized over the years that it could have been done better and bigger, with more strategic planning. Hubs has been amazing on finding a design I am in love with and he's even running electric out to...

What did you treat your garlic with? I ordered a TON of music and plan on planting tomorrow.

Yeah, they're a HUGE problem here in SW Michigan. I collect the ones I can in a mason jar and dump them in the run every day. One a couple of my girls will eat them and (thankfully) my boys do. Most of the hens think they're gross, tho. I agree!

Saddened today. My neighbors did have a rooster in their hatch. It was fun to hear him practicing his crow at my two boys. Saturday, they let their birds out to free range and didn't return until 11 pm to lock them up. The rooster and one hen were gone. I'm thinking it was taken by a racoon. I...

Well, I guess that just means I need more hens so I can keep them both 🤭

If you want a rooster I have a good boy who could use a home. Absolutely nothing wrong with him, just having two is overloading my hens.
