Well, we actually moved out of that house a year and a half ago, but we really liked it up until then, and the new owner still uses it.
The only complaint that we had is that the chickens' feed enticed mice into our garage, and we had a pretty bad infestation... other than that it was great!
Hello! I'll give some quick background in case it's helpful: A few weeks ago we got a new flock of 4 - 12 week old chicks: 2 bantams and 2 full sized birds. One of the bantams turned out to be a roo, so this weekend by husband found him a new home and brought home two full grown (year old I...
We are in Madison WI but willing to deliver these two anywhere within about two hours of home.
One is Millie Fleurs and the other is Porcelain D'uccle. Both are bantams and are currently being fed organic grower feed. They are about 10-12 weeks old and have been taken very good care of. They...
Hi Everyone! about a month ago we purchased four hens, all about a year old (born in early spring 2012). There are 2 Light Sussex, 1 Blue Marans, and one Gold Star (Sussex/Rhode Island Red Cross). They all laid just fine for a few days, then the Marans and Gold Star just stopped completely. The...
Here's the new garage coop! I've had my hens for about a year now, and when I bought this house we had two weeks to get the girls out of the rental coop and into a new home. My brother is a carpenter with a custom construction firm in town, and he graciously offered to build me a house warming...
Sounds like there's nothing too terrible about letting her be. I'll just make sure that she eats and drinks every day.... I'm glad to hear that the Wheaten is doing well, Michaela! Sounds like she's really happy at your house!!
I tried asking this question here a few days ago, and no one seemed to understand what I was getting at, so here goes again....
I have a broody hen, no roosters. I know that there are ways to break a broody, but I would prefer to let her do her thing and quit when she's ready. Has anyone ever...
I have a 1 1/2 year old hen who is now broody for the second time. She started this spring, and then we moved at the end of May, and moving to a new coop snapped her out of it. She's at it again, and has been for a little more than a week. I've been taking her off the nest twice a day to make...
Lol - We have been talking about the possibility of him starting a side business building custom coops. He's concerned that he materials and labor would end up being more than people want to pay for a chicken coop. I paid around $700-$800 for all the materials, and if he was charging he would...
More ventilation is going in soon - we have a bathroom fan that we'll install before winter. For now the open window will be enough.
It's funny that you can't notice the human sized door in the run. It's there, on the side toward the neighbor's house. It's a bit disguised, which is good, since...
Unfortunately I live in the city and I'm already one hen over the legal limit. It's too bad - she's really sweet, the top of the pecking order, and I'm sure she'd make a wonderful mother.
Is there such a thing as sympathetic broodiness? I just went and checked on them again, and noticed one of...
I have a hen that I think has just gone broody, but I'd like to make sure that she's not eggbound since this is my first experience with such things.
I noticed her sitting on the nest two evenings ago at bedtime. I'm not sure if she spent the night on the nest, but she was up and out in the run...
Ooh... that is nice Opa! I was just looking around online at the compost tumblers that are available, wondering if I could get one with two barrels, or an extra barrel.... The construction of yours looks a little intimidating to me, but it's pretty simple really. Where did you find the pickle...
