GRRRR I was afraid of that. I had just a small hope that they changed after the first molt. I wouldn't be upset if I didn't pay a premium price for Barnevelder eggs only to receive muts.
I bought these eggs thinking they were going to be double laced barnevelders; however, the color is not even close. When they mature will the coloring get better, or did I get duped?

I had a chick hatch with no eyes yesterday. They never developed at all. I decided to wait and see how it does before I cull it, I wanted to give it a chance. It seems very healthy, but I haven't seen it eat or drink by itself. It will drink when we dip his beak in water, but won't dip his...
What does everyone think about putting the eggs in a carton for the last 3 days to hatch? I have heard some say it is better because the eggs don't roll around while they are hatching...... Just wondering what the consensus is on this issue....
My little dominant hen does the same thing. She has always been the boss and she will stand in the door of the coop and will cluck and carry on to let everyone know she is the boss.
Believe it or not, I had one cracked just like that in the set of eggs I have in the incubator right now. I put wax on it when it first happened. On day 18 the cracked egg is developing right along with the others. Its only day 20, so it hasn't hatched, but I am hopeful
I am handy, but not a builder. I bought these plans: chickendiyguides.com - and it was well worth the money. They are step by step instructions for people that are not carpenters. I had the coop built in one weekend (that is not counting the run).
I just took a 10 x 10 x 6 prefab dog pen and turned it into a chicken run. I put my coop inside the run and since it was about 7 foot tall, I couldn't just put wire across. I built 4 trusses and sat them on top of the run. I attached a 1x6x10 board on each side of the peak at the top and on...
I have been told that you can tell the sex of a chick by how fast they get their feathers. I have 4 buff orpingtons. I thought I had 2 hens and 2 roos because 2 feathered a lot faster - the 2 that I thought were hens had little tail feathers a couple of weeks before the other two. Now, one...
I know about sexing a barred rock chick by leg color and the spot on their head, but I seem to remember someone also saying that the females get their tail feathers sooner than the males.....is this right?
I have two chicks, one has been very lethargic, so I added vitamins and electrolytes to their water. The package said for poultry recovering from stress, such as shipping. It seemed to help the lethargic chick a little (am going to try corid or sumlet next) but the other chick is now running...
