Thank you. Rain is a special puppy. She already is cool with the ducks, so amazing.
My removal of the eggs ( her first nest was in the middle of a well dog trodden path ) caused some problems with the momma who dug it. She has moved it and Prince guards her when she is in there...
When my duck got attacked, I made a mixture of 50% ACV and water. I also use Vetricyn. 3-4 times daily with the ACV and Vetricyn to rinse wound area.
Vinegar and flies do not mix.
Be sure to keep out of eyes.
On that first day, we used wound seal once we debrided the wound and applied...
Hi! Yes it was a wonderful moment. I wish I'd taken picture of where they lay but I did not want Rain finding them first as they were not hidden, just plopped of the path.
Sorry for the lack of posting. Busy on the farm..no money forcing me to hand dig the other ponds and connecting swales...
They lay them near the back door, almost like delivery...we shall see if it continues.
All are doing well, medical patient 1, still gets beat up, but LG and Dark Prince beat up everybody...
Rain is a sweetheart. She wants to be a duck real bad. She does not chase them but she tries to get...
Rain had come to our little duck pond. The puppy has kind of made friends. I am building the puppy/duckling pen for her next phase of training.
The female duck has managed to hang in there. She is one tough cookie. The one male still chases her from time to time but that appearse because...
Getting over the fear of hurting her.
Once that was overrun by desire to save her. It was easy. Watching the tube go into the crop was next hardest.
Since I was not sure, I measured to top of crop from outside, placed s mark 1/2" higher.
Watched for struggling. If I did it right, she...
This is what I have. After I bought it I used it as a kit of parts to make what I described, really nice to see it work.

Float valve in a 8 inch pvc tube with holes in it for their heads. Hose fitting on float end and viola, water on demand.
Use screw on end caps and you can flush system by just st removing end oppositie hose and float.
I have to let this play out. I think she is a survivor, she has made it this far, and has figured out a strategy, avoid, eat, preen add oil, avoid, eat...etc.
She has two allies, me and her fat friend (all my ducks are fat as they have the pond to themselves.)
:hugs
I just started hissing and imitating a dominant male. They drakes are bowing and backing off. They are now letting her forage with them.
Of course they all left after a few more minutes while typing and a female friend stayed behind, but they allowed her to stay. They would not let her near...
Things are calming down. Heat of day and all.
I'm trying to figure out what I can do on no budget.
The drakes big and strong, im gonna need reinforcing.
Easiest it to add a friend in with her. If I have to bring her in, I'll get her a friend.
Males view me as competition.
She will never let herself get 100% until she decides to rest while in care. I am thinking about taking her with the 2 docile hens. And sticking them back in the pen.
It is natures way of culling the weak. We hate it because we have compassion.
Prince has now decided she is unwelcome. He attacks her open mouth now, head down.
She is preening next to me, after I got some mazuri in her. She knows who I am...daddy.
There are two females that try and help her fend off the drakes. They stayed with her after the 45 minute rape session as they switch hit, D J then Prince...approx. 8 mating and LG got on her a lot when males were taking a smoke break.
After that the drakes and LG went off and plotted their...
Update: she is finally getting some good oil production going. The gland has been pretty dry and today it is oiled up and she is going to town spreading the oil.
Not sure why oil production down, maybe to offset the needed nutrition to get weight back on?
Either way...with oil on her...
Is her beak hot?
Take her temp under her wing like a human under shoulder, not the best but gets a ballpark, never check temp in vent on bound poultry. 107 thereabouts under wingpit.
