I have watched a video if someone using this method to rehabilitate aggressive roosters, including roosters used in cock fighting.
If I remember correctly, these people ran a rooster sanctuary. If a rooster got into a fight and was the instigator, he got put into rooster jail.
I will have to try the water and vinegar spray.
I had 4 roosters and no aggression towards myself or any other humans at all. Three of them lived in the same coop and the fourth in a different coop. They all shared the same backyard.
The top 3 on the packing order were all friendly towards me...
I had my first set if chicks in a room which is part of an outbuilding. There were oversized holes in the walls for water pipes.
Like a good and considerate new chicken owner, I used Great Stuff foam insulation in a can to fill/block that space so that no snake could get in and dine on the...
If the eggs are clean, do not wash them.
The bloom protects them.
If you do wash them, you have to put them in the refrigerator.
Even not washed, they will be good longer in the fridge.
Eggs can be good to eat for surprising amount of time. Over a month. They will however degrade with time.
No reason to keep an aggressive rooster.
There are very good roosters out there.
I had more than a few.
I had roosters who I could walk up to and pick up. A year ago I had about 30 roosters. Only 1 was aggressive. I gave away all but 3, and honestly I did not need 3.
However, they had such good...
It's probably a barnyard mix that you ended up with. I would not be happy if I paid for something specific, but if the chickens turned out friendly and with good personalities, I would be very happy about that.
Old thread, I know, but I found it doing a web search, so others might as well.
I had build my coops using decking screws with torx heads. I've used 2.5" screws on 2x4s and 1.5" screws when attaching plywood.
These screws are coated for outdoor use and will last for a very long time.
I've had...
Day 21 passed without any activity.
I am not sure what's on the egg of which I had attached a photo, but I candled all the remaining eggs and I see no chicks in them.
There are two eggs which I cannot get the light to penetrate, one being a Mars-Bars. That one has a very thick eggshell so I am...
I always put them in my chicken soup and some of the other soups. I know you cannot smell them but my family always used them so I continue that.
I think they do give flavor. My chicken soup is awesome 😋
Who initiates?
I had two pullets, where one would try to go under the other as if she was a chick going under her mother.
Then when I put grown hen with them, she would try the same thing with the grown hen also.
Just to close the loop, Peter was not worthless. Unfortunately I lost him 3 weeks ago and within a couple of days of his passing, my other rooster was killed by a fox. Then the following day, 2nd rooster was killed also.
This leads me to believe that Peter must had been protecting the backyard...
