    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Had my weekly physical therapy appointment then drove further south to the Longview Freddies to stock up on some deals. I haven't even checked for eggs today. Guess I'll wait until tomorrow.

What did you do in the garden today?

I agree. Steel guitar gets to me, in a good way. And most anything from the Possum, George Jones. New stuff is way too commercial.

Filled up the feeder with pellets.

I candled the eggs again and all ten of them are developing. The veins are much more visible and the dark spots are getting big. I let one egg sit still over the light and part of the shadow jerked, just like the chick was kicking its leg! Pretty cool! 10 days left.

What did you do in the garden today?

Yes it is. My best guess is that it's Russian Red garlic.

What did you do in the garden today?

Yeah, the garlic variety I grow overwinters well. This is last February.

And wallpaper? Looks like a mini apartment.

What did you do in the garden today?

I counted 35 of my garlic cloves have sprouted above ground so far. 55 more to go. Yeah, sad when the gardening is over, but good at the same time.

Well, the offer is still there if you want some barred rock ladies to keep him company, free of charge.

My chickens share this feeder that has two blue ports on it. They've learned to take turns feeding at different times of the day. Very clean and no feed waste. And yeah, Xcel 18% all purpose with oyster shell on the side. I think the big cockerels eat a lot.

Just got back from an Onalaska feed run. 13 chickens are going through a bag every couple of weeks, and not worth it for 3 to 5 eggs a day. Time to downsize to one cockerel and six pullets I think.

Nope, but all of the town of Winlock was blacked out, all the way over to the interstate. Had a hard time finding an open store.

I can fire up my little generator if needed. Never mind, power just came back on.

The power went out at 11:55. I covered the incubator with a couple of heavy towels to hold in the heat.

What did you do in the garden today?

I don't have any experience with wire grass. Sorry. Hoe, hoe, hoe. Keep chopping them off and weaken the roots. Takes time and effort but it works.

What did you do in the garden today?

I had a big problem with Canada thistle in one of my raised beds a few years ago. The roots run for yards underground creating new plants all over the place. No way I'd use chemicals in my garden or lawn, so all I did was chop off all the new growth as I saw it coming up above ground. After...

I think bean seeds are good for several years.

What are your frugal and sustainable tips and tricks?

I agree that laser printers are the way to go if you don't print many pages during the year. I lost track of how many partially filled inkjet cartridges I threw away because they got plugged up from drying out. Mine also has a copy function that I use as much or more than printing pages.

I was going to save bean seeds but ended up picking them all to eat, so I'll be buying seeds next year. The Blue Lake pole beans produced all season, the Provider bush beans gave me one big picking and another smaller one. I couldn't make myself wait until tomorrow to candle the eggs so I did...
