Im just getting started here. The bugs and fungus have not found me to dash my dreams yet.

wicking beds are awesome but first tomato ripe was starting to split. We had some rains but think I need to keep an eye on water level. Temps still in the mid 80s but cooling to low 70s in the early mornings.

Color me ignorant, but I thought Hawaii enjoyed a 12 month growing season.

I did this with glyphosate in the spring (applied Roundup to cut stalks). The pokeweed still returned/regrew later in the summer. It didn't get as tall and big though so you can tell that the Roundup definitely damaged the rhizomes but didn't eradicate it completely.

I had a big problem with Canada thistle in one of my raised beds a few years ago. The roots run for yards underground creating new plants all over the place.

No way I'd use chemicals in my garden or lawn, so all I did was chop off all the new growth as I saw it coming up above ground.

After three years of doing thes the bed is free of Canada thistle. If leaves are continually chopped off the roots die. Simple as that.

Yes and no. Im Westside and zone 12b. We get pretty hot during our summers and everything suffers (especially me) Kind of desert guidelines. So fall, winter and spring work best. No sense torture me or the plants. I just stick to deep watering fruit trees etc. With my new wicking beds ill see if I can't keep a few things going

Hoe, hoe, hoe. Keep chopping them off and weaken the roots. Takes time and effort but it works.

So our chickens get a daily treat of sunflower seeds, BSFL, blueberries, and grapes. Plus they rummage through the garden for tidbits as they free range. Should we consider them to be spoiled,?

No they are not spoiled. They are so well loved. I know my chickens have full run of the property. They go to bed at night but they are not locked up because the property is fenced on all 4 sides. My chickens don't stink which means they're not spoiled because spoiled would mean they were flawed and they are flawless.
