One of my five chickens (a GLW) is missing feathers on her belly/underside leading up to her vent. The skin looks sore and raw. She's happy and eating and acting normal, but it looks awful. It's been a hard, long first winter for the birds and they've spent a lot of time in the coop. That...

Thank you so much for the offer!
I got really lucky and a local farmer is willing to add Lizzie to her flock. It's really close so my son can visit her any time he'd like to.
I have to offer Lizzie up - free to a good home. She's just got too much song in her for our tiny back yard. Right now I lock her in the coop when she starts up, but that's not fair to her. Sigh. My kids are going to be a wreck.
We have a very nice bird who loves to sing. Unfortunately the neighbors do not like her singing all that much and she is putting the rest of our flock at risk due to her vocalizing. "Lizzie" lays the most beautiful blue green eggs and is a very sweet bird.
She was hatched March 5 from Meyer...
Thanks for the advice and the tales - you guys made my morning.
She's been laying for about two weeks now. It's really only been the last few days that she's been so consistently vocal.
No word from the neighbors, but I really don't want it to get to the point where they're upset. I may...
I have a hen that is incredibly loud and it sounds like she's injured and wailing. It's really unpleasant and, oh yeah, LOUD.
She started making this noise when she is getting ready to lay - she panics and runs in and out of the coop screaming. This can go on for hours. She didn't lay...
I have three EEs (21 weeks) that started laying last week. I have one who lays every day and the other two lay two and then take a day off. My fourth EE and my 2 Gold Lace Wynadottes are 22 weeks and are still not laying though they seem to be readying. Someday they'll stop freeloading!
Mine do that too except we have a glass door. At first I thought they were just checking themselves out like a mirror. But nope. They're sitting by the door waiting for me to come out. It drives the dog crazy - he hates them peeking in his door!
Pretty birds. We went away for a week. We had a kid checking on our chickens, but she missed the fact they laid three eggs. Those were the FIRST eggs our girls laid. Anyway, the eggs are okay. We did the water test - do they sink (okay) or float (throw away).
Have a great time on your trip!

Wow, that's a pretty broad ordinance. Like you, I am hoping not to become the test case for chicken laws in our town. Our neighbors are pretty decent, but I still worry about it when I can hear the girls echoing down the street.
We've had friends a couple of blocks away get into a...
