what do I do, HELP!

thank all of you for your help, I think it may be sour crop, that seems to fit the symptoms. I looked at that gapeworm link and it doesn't seem to fit. I am gonna try the apple cidar vinegar and massaging the crop today, but I don't have any mineral oil...will have to see if they have that at the store. Had I thought it was sour crop yesterday I would have grabbed some from work, looks like I may have to go to work on my day off to grab some oil. I will update on her status as we go.

We used just normal veg oil on Eleanor with a small syring to get it into her. It is hard work but if it is sour crop can be treated. As I said worked for our Eleanor but it did take about a week 10 days.

Best of luck hope she gets well.

She seems a little better yesterday and today. I saw her drink quite a bit and she is no longer drooling after she eats. She is more vigorous about eating, but I don't think she is eating any layena. Crop is relatively empty when I feel it at night, which is odd, the rest are over full at that time of night. I saw her poop today too, was very green.
I added ACV to the water and have been massagin her crop and giving her a little canned cat food (she only eats a tsp or so) then I know she is getting a little protein. Did the oil (vegetable oil) the last 2 days and she is fighting me more now so I am gonna give it a rest today since she looks better. If it is sour crop, I feel like I haven't done much to improve it, seems more like a coincidence that she is improving, but idk. Will continue to update.
I am leaving town for a few days next week and I hope not to have to worry about her.
funny, she is the only one who doesn't seem all that affected by the extreme heat we have been having. All the others are panting while she is lookin normal (as far as the heat goes). She is a pretty quiet bird though..I think she liked being by herself in the garage last year and I wonder if she is partly depressed with her coopmates. I thought of moving her with the other coop, but I don't want to stress her while she is not 100%. (she has been in with the other coop and got along well with them). She gets along with everyone in her coop, but there is a particularly mean hen who chases anyone who comes close to her.

so, incase anyone ever looks at this thread for a similar problem:

Look in the mouth REAL good, see any yellow stuff? It may be small, but no yellow belongs there. Unfortunatly, I did not get a diagnosis until I had the right person ask me the right questions. I had tried to look in the mouth when she was 1st ill, and I don't think I looked good enough. BTW, it was a difficult thing to do at that point cause she was still fiesty.

Dr chicken told me it is Canker, caused by a protozoan, and it is treated with 1 tablet of Metronidazole (250mg) once daily for 5-10 days. He advised me to tube feed her (since she cannot eat anymore) and I just did for the 1st time. Seems to have gone fabulously, crop is full and although she was VERY stressed cause I took so long, she seems a little brighter.

so....if you have a chicken who fits the bill on this one, feel free to PM or email me if you have any questions I MIGHT be able to answer. I am no means an expert, and hope not to have to do this again, but would be willing to help if I can.

I am afraid she looks pretty bad this evening, she can barely stand or walk. I hope she either passes peacefully or starts to get better.

- at least you did all you could for her. Perhaps we will never know what was wrong. At least she is at peace now.
Good it happened out in the yard with you. I know you will miss her much. It is so hard sometimes to figure what is wrong and how to treat it. Chickens are funny creatures that way. Sometimes you can do everything in your power and everything right and sadly it doesn;t work out. Other times you do everything wrong and they thrive and no one can tell you why????

You are in my thoughts today much love
