How fun! A Christmas project -- raising chicks. Sounds like you have the fever. Happy you enjoy it. It's definitely a sustainable flock.

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Thank you! Thanks! Oh yes, meat would take a long time I think. I did add veggies: onion, carrots, celery, bell pepper, fresh thyme and a couple bay leaves. But I did not roast the bones nor any of the veggies. I wanted a lighter broth to go into sauces and soups. If I wanted it for gravy...

    Whatcha Making for Supper?

Tonight is Reuben sandwich for him probably with fries and a salad. Just salad for me. We'll be going out to lunch so we won't be very hungry at dinner time. I need to use up the rest of the corned beef, so this is a good day for it.

    Whatcha Making for Supper?

A note about the Turkey Tetrazzini recipe, in case you try it, @pac . Pioneer Woman must be feeding a lot of people and trying to stretch her food dollar. So, number one, use less pasta. Number two, I cut the recipe in half and it will still make 2 or 3 dinners for us. I have a big...

I canned pints -- 20 minutes pressure canning. Brought the broth to a boil before canning, and canned in heated jars.

I didn't know James was sick. Hope he is better soon. I did get 7 pints. The slow cooker is the way to go with broth. Cooks overnight, and the amount of water I put in is the same amount that comes out. So, I got exactly 7 pints of broth. This batch is the best broth I've ever made. I...

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I made broth over night with the turkey carcass and some veggies and herbs. I left a little of the meat on the bones and some of the skin which had been brined with salt and herbs. It turned out so good! Hope to get 7 pints canned today of it. Turkey tetrazzini tonight and that will be...

I just did that with my turkey carcass to make a flavorful broth. I even included the skin since I brined the turkey. I'm hoping for something amazing. 😄

Turkey carcass, veggies and herbs in crock pot to make a savory broth in the slow cooker overnight. I'll can that tomorrow.

Ours was delicious too. Most of the leftover turkey will go into the freezer now, but I'll keep enough out to make turkey tetrazzini tomorrow night. Reubens tonight.

I think if your pellets are flock raiser or all flock, it should be fine. The chicks that are raised by our hens make the switch rather early. I put the chick feed out but they move on. When I'm raising them, I stay with chick feed until they integrate. For this reason I generally use flock...
