It was like the calvary arrived when the CL&P trucks showed up! Our guys came all the way from CO...a long 6 days without power. Thinking a little, local chicken party might be in order before winter sets in. Traveled today to the coffee roaster. 38 miles, 1 hr travel time times 2, for...

Thanks Beth! That felt good...let me know if you want to try the chaff, and maybe we could squeeze in a little chickenstock here before the dead of winter. Any interest in a fall event?
Hello All,
Haven't been here in ages so thought I'd check in with an offer...about a year ago there was a thread about using coffee chaff in the coop as an alternative to shavings. I called a few coffee roasters but wasn't able to find one who would save their chaff for me. Finally, yesterday I...

I just looked up the Cookies and Cream cupcakes, Martha Stewart, and not only do they sound divine, they're so beautiful with that whole Oreo cookie on the bottom. White liners really let the cookie show through. Great dessert to travel and served on one those tiered cupcake holders.
The first time my buff orp hatched a chick in the coop I let her raise it and all was well. The next hatch, I let chicks stay with 2 mamas and we had problems. The chicks wouldn't go back in the coop with mamas one night, it got cool and they died in the yard.
So this summers hatch went like...

Let us know how it turned out!
I don't worry about the calories in it since I have been low carbing. Also the reason I can't put it over toast, rice or noodles.....although I bet that would be terrific!
It was rich and delicious! I used more chicken than the recipe called for so we...
this looks and sounds so good I bought all the ingredients for tonight. accidently got light cream instead of heavy whipping cream. hope it doesn't matter. if it turns out well, may just try it again with 2% milk.

Thanks that does help. I have someone coming to take the cute little mutts so I may never know what color egg they end up laying. It was the green shanks that made me think they might still be EE, even with the BO contribution. Out of that hatch I also ended up with 3 BO/Australorps...
I have 2 chicks that hatched in the coop from green eggs. The rooster is a buff orp. The chicks are darkish, multicolored and have green shanks. My question is; since they're EE/buff orp crosses, are they still considered EE or not? Or you don't know until they lay? Thanks.

Tinman.. I was reading this article and thought of you http://www.motherearthnews.com/Happy-Homesteader/Coffee-Chaff-Chicken-Coop-Litter.aspx
It is about using coffee chaff for coop litter. When I googled roasters in CT, the closest one to me is in BETHEL.
Thanks for posting this...

Hi,
I'm not from Fairfield county but, I think a couple others are.
There's a BYC member, bagendhens near you in Bethel. I bought chicks from her in the spring.
Shay, you were here at our second chickenstock and made some great food. we had a plant/seed swap, tag sale and it rained like crazy. If anyone has info on the Oxford chicken club let me know, can't find anything on it. know there's a livestock association, could that be it?
Hi Everyone,
Moosehillfarm here. Haven't been to BYC in ages. Busy summer in the garden and raising chicks. Gotta keep the flock fresh! Around Easter of this year, met BagEnd Hen at a Dunkin Donuts and bought 3, day old chicks, a Barred Rock, a Speckled Sussex and an Australorp. They're gorgeous...
Hi,
If anyone would like a free easter egger rooster I've got one to offer. 3 roosters is one too many for my flock. Let me know if you're interested and we can arrange a pick up or drop off point. I'm in Oxford and can meet you partway. Thanks.

Welcome from Windham, formerly from Middletown. Enjoy your chicks!!
Hi H23! Bodie, your chicken cam is so cute. we just got a wildlife cam that we're still trying to figure out. it missed the bobcat that came sniffing round the coop yesterday. We officially were declined my request for...
Thanks Badlatitude for bringing us back into the light. Spent the day preparing for the 3 new chicks I pick up tomorrow from a BYC member! Went to Benedict's in Monroe to buy chick starter and they had a bunch of little peepers for sale. My guy built a nice big roomy brooder. Decided to order 7...
I talked to osborndale state park today. He sounded open to a chickenstock but said we'd probably have to apply for a special use permit and pay a $50 fee, plus get insurance (anywhere between $80-125) He asked me to make my request in an e-mail as a first step, which I did. If we do end up...
Hi everyone,
Poking my head in after a long time away. I get hermit like in the winter but now it's spring, cold though it may be! It was most enjoyable to host 2 Chickenstocks here in Oxford. Last year we had a seed and plant swap too which was great. Those Blue Lake beans were wonderful. My...
