Movable coop is a fantastic idea. Our neighbors have one on skids. And they use solar panel battery powered mesh fencing. Every couple weeks they just hook the shed to the tractor and slide it to new grass. (After dark when everybody has gone to roost.) Put the fencing back up and morning finds...
It occurs to me that he may be bruising or rubbing himself against something.
I wonder about the chicken access door on your coop. Is it adequate size for him?
What type of feeder and waterer do you have.
Pictures of your set up may help.
Check her over for injuries.
Does your rooster have spurs?
I have had hens injured by spurs in their sides. Also I had one with a broken leg once. Not sure how she got it though.
I just separated her to a hutch for a few weeks and she slowly began to walk normally.
Yes, they are fighting and could severely injure or fight to the death in cases.
My extra roosters get a ride to an Amish farm where get cleaned and dressed for me for a fee.
Some people keep extra groups of rooster in a "bachelor pad" for life.
Personaly, that seems more cruel than the "clean...
I have had problems like this in the past also with some "top hatters" that I tried to have. The standard breeds just love to pluck those top hat feathers for some reason. I no longer try to have top hat breeds anymore for this reason AND the top hat makes this breed more vunerable to aerial...
Oh yaa, my chickens love Styrofoam to for some reason!
Also dont forget small mice and dog poop. And the fact that water from the mud puddle is so much more desirable than the clean water I provide~!!@,? 🤦
Hi, and welcome to BYC !
It would be helpful to know more about your chickens like age, are they laying eggs?
Are they free range or confined?
Where are you located in the world, and what feeds exactly have you tried?
I've never heard about feeding grape vine leaves. My chickens have a vineyard...
I don't have rats, probably because I have not killed my current weasel.
Mice only can get in my coop during the day through the chicken door, as I have no gaps, cracks or openings otherwise.
Chickens eat those mice as there is nowhere to hide once they get in.
Message is, dont kill your weasel...
Weasel.
Dogs leave slobbery mahem.
Racoons the same.
Fox take whats needed at the time.
Fortify your coop run enclosure with 1/4 inch hardware cloth.
Weasels are night time hunters for the most part.
I have learned to live with my weasel (they are territorial, and you will only have one) . They...
Agreed!
Broodies are scarry!
Here is a description I wrote about one of mine
Most of my broodys act psychotic.
Picture a nice serene barn yard...then all the sudden, here she comes! off the nest , barreling out the coop door like a preditor is on her heals, clucking loud like a time bomb about...
Some girls are just like that!
Maybe advertise her as broody mama queen and someone will have the perfect situation for her where she can be herself and fulfill her life's ambition to rear young.
There are non broody breeds that would be better at just egg production if that is your preference...
Many times overcrowding and bordom is the culprit when problems like this occur.
Chickens thrive and have fewer problems when they have ample pasture and area to explore. They live to peck and scratch so an area with grass, bugs, and vegetation will keep them busy.
If you have limited area, you...
Tell us about your set up, how many chickens total, the space they have avaliable, what you are feeding along with any other things that can help us figure this out. Pictures also help
