Sorry. That sucks. Especially bc these things probably wont help the backyard poultry. The bird flu is unstoppable and everywhere bc of the contaminated wild birds. Imho, it’s all a waist of time and gives the chickens again a miserable winter period.
But if you are still in need of a...
Are you sure you are obliged to keep them in the run? In Wales it’s permitted to free range small flocks. I believe @Perris told us on Shads thread.
In the Netherlands we have to keep the chickens separated too (shield for contact with wild birds). The rules stink for hobbyists. Imho its...
We went to a restaurant in a hotel yesterday. If you collected ‘stamps’ at the supermarket, the 2nd meal (3 courses) was for free.
There was a simple menu to choose from. I had
Onion soup (too sweet but otherwise good)
Pasta pesto (too creamy, not much taste, hardly any broccoli or other...
I let my chickens out to free range this morning. But all they did is sit and chill under the hazelnut tree. I saw them come out only twice to empty a yoghurt carton. But they stay away from the grass and other forage area’s.
It’s 3°C (between 30 and 40°F) but they act as if it’s 3°F.

For harsh climates. Yes. If your chickens can go outside from sunrise till sunset they only need roost space. About 1ft each and 1ft apart. Depending on the size and temperament of your chickens. Small bantams only need ½ ft x ½ ft roost space. Count for another ½ - 1ft extra space from any...
imho:
Plastic is lousy material for indoor climate (moist, heat, cold) regulation. Not as easy to make alterations as wood and not good for the environment either.
Wood has only one con, its a good habitat for red mites too, so you need to paint the inside with chalk or diatomaceous earth. With...
This really doesn’t make any sense to me either. I had expected more sympathy too. 💕
Hope the start of Sunday will be promising too and no more disappointing things will happen. 🤞Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
My ‘second’ run has an odd shape (only 6m2) and has one pole in the middle to keep the net up. I put cat netting on top, with a thin metal thread inside. This netting is really good. It holds for approx 8 years now. ™ = Trixie.
The only conn so far: little sparrows can go through. Do little...
Just wait and see? Or think ahead.
What will you do with your flock in a hurricane, flooding or a fire?
Sorry if I offended you talking about climate change. But if people try to ignore it, I try / hope they at least think about the consequences every know and then.
More tax.
Cockerel...

All the cost from weather extremes, hurricanes, flooding and wide spreading fires will increase...
My Black was injured badly last year. I picked her up from a neighbour, sitting and not moving on top of a bin, 4 or 5 houses down the street. Probably happened escaping from a predator. I felt so sorry for her and I didn’t know what to do. But she did.
She went into a nestbox by herself...
