She spent around 45 minutes in the nest box today but didn't lay. I'm hoping it's just a glitch and not internal laying. She's absolutely fine in herself and her eggs in the past have always been fine with hard shells. I'll continue with her calcium tablet each morning.
She has been in the nest box a few times since laying the shelless egg but hasn't laid, but this morning she expelled what looked like a complete egg shell, all squashed up. I'm assuming that is what she was having problems passing. I gave her a calcium + Vitamin D tablet this morning and will...
I found this poop in the coop this morning where my 5 hens reside. The poop is from one of 2 birds. I know this as I screenshot where I can see them sleeping at night on the camera. Two if the hens are 5 years old and no longer lay, while the other 2 are 3. One if the hens laid a shelless egg a...
Sorry for your loss. I must admit, it crushes me each time I lose one and I cry like a baby, and I feel just the same, kind of guilty because I couldn't stop it happening. They hide illness so well that when it manifests its often too late. If only they could tell us what's going on.
Two of my hens recently had a heavy, and somewhat late moult. One of them has been unwell for a week now with diareaha, although up until yesterday she was eating enthusiasticaly, more so than normal, which makes me think she has worms. As they are all due to be wormed anyway at the end if this...
Oh. As my wires will be attached to fence posts 6 feet or so in the air, when a fox touches it won't it have any affect as its feet won't be on the ground? Or am I missing something.
Please excuse my ignorance on ths topic, I know very little about the subject. My plan is to install wooden fence posts along two sides of my garden and fit angled timber pieces to the top of the posts (like a cat frame bracket) and then run 2 or 3 (whichever you think best) pieces on pollywire...
Soaked and redressed her foot again this morning, and there's definitely further improvement. It's been surprisingly dry for a good few weeks here in the UK, but as rain is expected I used a hydrocolloid dressing on her foot today to ensure it stays clean. I'll leave the dressing on until...
Okay, I took more scab off yesterday, and there doesn't seem to be anymore infection in there I soaked her feet beforehand, applied vetericyn, and for the first time I started applying sugardine after which I wrapped her foot. The image is from this morning after I'd soaked and washed her foot...
I changed the dressing for the second time this morning. I soaked her foot for a while then used a iodine scrub, applied prid and neosporin and then dressed with gauze and vet wrap. Looking at the image, is this looking good five days after surgery?
Well, I took the scab off this morning after applying prid a few times over the last week. I soaked her feet, took the scab off, which was really easy, and rinsed it with vetericyn, put some prid in and neosporin, and covered with a piece of hydrocolloid dressing, gauze and vet wrap I'll bathe...
